Its a lonely old job!

I certainly prefer my own company, always been a bit of a loner ever since I was a kid, don’t get me wrong I like having the Craic with folks back at the yard and at delivery points but certainly don’t mind being alone, singing along to the radio minding my own business.

switchlogic:
Its only a lonely job if you get lonely. I never feel lonely. I just like being on my own

How can you go insane Luke you have your side kick Mr Bertie

I love it, sometimes I go for days without even the radio on. Mind you it helps to have someone intelligent to talk to…me :unamused:

Then I have a spell of flicking the dial, if I’m in the west it’s the old traditional music, if far enough north to get Radio 4, the Archers. After the evening meal and the once-a -day company I’m happy with my Kindle before sleep.

Of course half the time, I have very good listeners too, from Terriers to Pyrenean Mountain dogs.

I think it is a defining characteristic for a lorry driver. If you don’t enjoy your own company you won’t last long I think.

That sounds suspiciously like something to do with one of those new fangled smart phones to me( ), 'fraid my phone is the most basic you could imagine, it just takes and makes phone calls. I have got round to texting though.

Never lonely!! Unsocial maybe!! I’ve learned to be a bit more social now I trunk!!

Got to agree with everyone else here. I like my own space. Love the wife & kids and certainly don’t want to be away months on end like I used to do. But 2/3 days in the house is more than enough.

Retired Old ■■■■:
Too right I do.
And if I could get rid of that damned phone, I would!

Madguy :smiling_imp:

Like being with others on weekends at home or elsewhere and Always feel a bit low leaving the house at start of the week but get into it by Monday pm and enjoy my own company, and space to chill out, read, watch tv/DVD of my choice etc on a night.

thetastytrucker:
As the title says … but do you enjoy your own company ?

would be a bit moronic not to like your own company in this industry lol

Lonely LOL , you don’t know the meaning mate. Just spent the last 31/2 days traveling up and back from borderline the NorthWest Territories , ok Rabbit Lake but seemed more like the freakin middle of nowhere . No roads , no population , no phone ,just snow and forest for company , the odd moose and deer gave me a friendly wave . I did have comms with dispatch via Peoplenet but don’t rely on that at the best of times :unamused: . Lonely ? Bloody right I was

Absolutely, and I take it as far as I can by being a night driver.

I think we may have met in a RDC waiting room

deffo enjoy my own company and the job always have done

enjoyed it even more before mobile phones , laptops , ipads and wotever else drivers have these days

whatever happened to the good old days when you found things out sat in the transport cafe talking to other drivers

all this technology these days but you dont see drivers chatting with other drivers anymore everyones at full speed

years ago the job got done but drivers were a lot more chilled out

wigan:

What are we all doing on here then? Technology connects more drivers to each other than ever before.

I dont find being away for a week lonely, but not sure i’d feel about doing weeks or even months away at a time though.
