but dont worry you can be paid a nice 15 quid per night out and i am sure drivers really like that
I’m on salary,
Last Fri 3hr total shift so “hourly” rate was over and above MEGA!!!
This Fri left Portsmouth 0215 to make 1330P&O boat Cairnryan and if the “yankers” hadn’t deverted A34 N would have made it in a 462mile 9hr drive hit!!![emoji12]

I have been driving for 7 weeks now after 20 years in retail. With the exception of nights out/laybys all of the above apply to retail, and I am sure many other industries. In some ways the taco rules help as I must have time off. I didn’t have that protection before.
Good point here. In the USA we have been introducing ‘E LOGS’ linked to a computer screen in the cab, we have to shut down and take proper rests, similar to the tacho rules and I find many complaining because quote ‘Ain’t nobody gonna tell me when I needs ma sleep or rest, dam elogs shuttin’ down ma truck’ Is what I hear every day, usually from idiots who have no idea how they work
I have been using them for about 8 years now and they are a god send. These old guys who say they are perfectly fine working 24 hours a day and stopping for 15 minute naps have no idea how stupid they are, as I tell them “If you can’t do the job legally or can’t make a living without breaking the law you are in the wrong job”
I love the fact that I get plenty of rest and I can just tell the management ‘Sorry, I can’t do that’ and they accept it. Also … No ELOG has been made that can shut a truck down, which is a common belief among the ignorant.

Pay, you’re right in that no Elog can shut a truck down but there are plenty of devices you can buy that will remotely shut them down, especially used by company’s that lease or sell to buyers with bad credit.

Nice to see you back Pete with your usual carrier bag bodily function themed posts.
If you had bothered to take the dcpc that the rest of us retards and mugs have done, you could have given some in class instruction on the subject with maybe a demo.
15 quid? I wouldn’t get out of bed (for a crap) for that.

I was caught short going down to A9 one lovely crisp morning, climbed over the banking and had a wonderfully tranquil jobby looking across a wee loch with some hills and what not as a backdrop. That was a lovely morning.
as long as you can understand what the person is trying to say…who gives a ■■■■ about spelling, it’s really not a big deal in this job
it’s a forum…think about it like having a chat rather than some grammar assessment
being on my own for 90% of the time and not being stuck in office listening to the same peoples ■■■■ stories every day pretty much overruled all the bad points stated by the OP
I’m trying something different just now but if that doesn’t work I’ll be back to driving

I’ll assume that’s directed toward me?
I said if he wrote like that in a CV which was a reply in response to this post…

I’d enjoy reading his CV

My CV is top but I live in the real world I have never earned less than 40000 a year and I still resent the hours and treatment
Not being funny but with your level of spelling your CV would be in the bin mate.
Tbh I really couldn’t care less about anyones grammar or spelling on the forum or the OP’s CV for that matter, less competition at the job interview stage as far as I’m concerned.
Well it’s never going to change when you have blokes like my mate who comes out with statements like “I like doing 15 hour shifts” when his boss made them sign a letter saying they would pay insurance excess he said “every firm is getting like that”…
I swear if the boss told him he didn’t have time to stop for a crap and he had to crap his Sen then he would…
Iv tried to tell him over the years but it don’t work
I’m not an awkward driver but if I ain’t happy about something I will say in the right way…

When I started with my present co, and refused to do some 1 am start at same rate, or tear my arse off or something, I used to get. ‘‘Why not, Jeff does it’’

I’m never asked now.

Our lot tried it in new contracts of employment, pay so much towards any damage.
Most of the drivers(true to form ) just blindly signed it, I refused, as I thought it was all wrong and unfair.
I was getting some sort of one to one H&S talk from a bloke from the main depot one day, and he mentioned that it had been noticed I hadn’t signed.
He spent about 30 mins trying to explain and justify it, ie,… each case judged on it’s own circumstances, no need to worry about it etc etc. Then he said
‘‘Do you understand now after I’ve clarified it’’
I said ‘‘Yeh’’
‘‘OK, so you’ll sign it now it’s been explained to you then’’
‘‘No’’
Heard nothing more about it.

Quite simple really, let them shaft you and they WILL shaft you. Refuse their bollox and they’ll back down especially if you are an established driver of good repute with them. Even the most shortsighted company recognise the fact that good drivers ain’t ten a penny.

40k a year sounds great …BUT your not actually saying what you have to do to get that figure,it could be your putting more hours in working your socks off and think thats a normal job.
OR it could be you are not what could be called a general Driver, and work for private individual Company who pays its Drivers a basic wage in line or on par with its factory workers, and you get 40k because due to the nature of the job do more hours than them.
I know that happens as I got paid the rate for engineering, which was higher at the time than ordinary driving jobs got paid
I recently left a take-home 42k a year job, was nothing overly specialised, most days where between 10 to 12 hours, however I was more than happy to get my hands dirty, any problems with the truck or trailer I would sort myself. This career has been good to me, IV made a decent name for myself, it’s up to us to make what we can of it, nobody else.
