It looked ok on the map

Has anybody used the A54 just outside macclesfield of the A523 heading towards buxton? It appears as a normal A road on the map and when you enter the road there is no signs or weight limits but what a ■■■■■■■ of a road it is to drive a truck through! Tighter than a ducks arse with narrow bends and steep inclines… Safe to say I came back down the A53

I used it to get from Buxton to Winsford. 26T and almost cooked my brakes. Sat at Winsford for 30 minutes before tipping and they were still too hot to touch.

Don’t know about today, but years ago there used to be signs up at the Cat and Fiddle saying that there were more motorcyclists killed on that road than anywhere else in Britain!

It also was a great place for picking up signals on the ol’ CB - I’ve had contacts from Scotland, West Wales and the South West of England whilst sitting by the pub up there! A long time ago, that was!.

Aye, it can be tight in places! I was gingerly going down it loaded years ago when one of Allinsons Fodens from Stockport passed me on one of the bends and nearly took my mirror with him! He was loaded as well but those lads never did take any prisoners. :unamused:

Pete.
