It all starts today!

OK, had my trial drive with John at Flair today. LOVED IT! Got to get the roundabouts sorted out, but my main concern with the gearbox soon evaporated, and got quite used to it. Had a really happy drive through Chelmsford for and hour & a half or so, got on well with John, and really looking forward to the start of the training. Just got to get through the Theory tests on the 7th, and can get the course underway.

I’ll start my diary from here, and let you know how I get on

Gary

Ah Chelmsford,a special place in my heart as it was always the place I could grab an hours kip after coming from the Smithfield meat market and waiting for Aldi to open at 4.30.
Sleep is a beautiful thing.

Well done Gary

It’s all coming together nicely - keep up the good work and good luck.

Alan

Well done Gary

How is it possible to undergo a test drive without sitting theory and cpc but not practical training? I’m guessing because the time frame of training is different to a 25 minute test drive?

I wounderd that too Sam. Having not got his provisional

Hi Sam and Mick

Not quite sure what your on about but Gary had a trial drive, and done quite well. Not perfect but about 30% of what it will take for him to pass.

The other 20% together we will get right at the time.

The rest and that is 50% will only come from his self belief. This 50% is the true job of a trainer. All my mates think I spend 8 hours saying turn left turn right. Apart from that it is all about the belief

Good luck to all testing this week

You will be nervous but not as nervous as your instructor.

Keep the faith

I wasn’t slating how well it went or anything…

What I meant was, i was under the impression that Mod 2 and 4 had to be taken and passed before practical training was allowed to be given. If this is the case, what’s the difference between going on a test drive without doing 2 & 4, and taking practical training without doing 2 & 4?

Think the initial CPC has to be passed before driving commercially so most will recommend doing it before training starts.

I have a pre-97 licence - my C / CE provisional dates back to before 1991, so I’m exempt from the Initial mods 2 & 4. Having said that, once the driving tests are out of the way, I’ll get in to do the 35 hours, along with ADR, and a few hours training to cover artic.

The Mod 2 and Mod 4 can be taken either before or after the driving test or not at all if the person is either not going to be driving commercially or is going to be driving under one of the exemptions.

The only exception to this is when the person is under 21. In that case they MUST pass the CPC modules whatever their circumstances. It can however still be taken before or after the driving test.
