Isuzu's sponsorship of the New and Wannabe drivers forum

Isuzu’s sponsorship of the New and Wannabe drivers forum.

By the end of next year Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd will have expanded its truck range up to 18 tonnes GVW, through the arrival of a whole new range of trucks. These stylish new vehicles will challenge the more established European models in the expanding medium distribution sector, which means pretty soon we’ll be driving them.

For many new entrants to the road transport industry driving, this medium duty section is where the teeth are cut. Knowledge gained in those early days will carry forward throughout those drivers’ careers.

To mark Isuzu’s entry into this new marketplace the company has signed up to sponsor the New and Wannabe truck drivers forum on TruckNet UK. This forum specialises in helping new drivers to the industry through their first days and months out on the road. There’s advice and support from more experienced drivers, which ensures the transition to being a professional driver is made as smooth and easy as possible

I seen this smart looking Isuzu car transporter with a ‘sleeper pod’. Is that an Isuzu extra or an aftermarket add on? The driver looked chuffed to bits !!!

hatcher make them as an aftermarket add on, the driver wont be that chuffed with it after crawling in and out of the hatch and sweating like a goddam pig all night ,they should be banned i am sorry to say i wouldnt dream of sleeping in that in 2007 we should have moved on, i should say i cant comment on the truck coz i aint ever drove one this is only aimed at the pod and i had one in 1990 and it was horrendous and it felt like a coffin terrible things

Those NPR/NQR are handy little things, decent little engine for the job although the cab is small compared to other 7.5 tonners. The worst thing about them though is the ride. Because they weigh about as much as a ■■■ packet they bounce about all over the place. On the plus side you get a good payload compared to a Eurocargo or similar.

The company I work for has an all Isuzu fleet, excluding a few lingering members of Daewoo’s finest

The transport manager absolutely loves the Isuzu’s, always singing their praises. As has been mentioned, they do get a noticeably better payload than the eurocargo, DAF LF, and MAN equivalents. Also reckons mechanically they are very simple, thus in theory reliable and cheaper to repair. Although they have said that getting parts can be a drawn out process, compared to your average Merc.

Apart from the 18t Renault premium I passed my test in, these are all I have driven. From my limited experience things that annoy me would be the low cabs compared to everything else, feels like you are dragging on the floor. The fact that it has a handbrake rather than an airbrake system (although to be fair, the handbrake does seem to hold them well). The lack of seat height adjustment. The bouncy ride, particularly in the shorter wheelbase NPR, on some country roads i’ve been bounced completely out of the seat, even hit my head on the storage shelves of the compact cab after a particularly large bounce. Also the fact that it looks more like a Nissan Cabstar on steroids than a truck as was pointed out to me not long ago.

I find other truck drivers dont take you seriously at all, because the vehicles look like tonka toys, they treat you like some hobby C1 chancer rather than a professional.

What do the people on here think about Isuzu?

That Isuzu i snapped above seems identical to the Mitsibushi Canters i seen a few years ago. Are they the same thing rebranded?
