Firstly rip to the 5 killed this weekend, but with the race dating back over a hundred years, discounting the war years, less than 10 have ended up WITHOUT a rider fatality. How much longer has the race got left, in this world of health and safety?

Motor racing is dangerous it goes with the territory.
Fast motor bikes are more dangerous than cars and road racing is even more dangerous. It’s nothing new and it’s a case of each to their own and freedom of choice.I do question the logic of anyone going back for more after they’ve had the luck to survive one let alone two bad crashes though.Hopefully at least Guy Martin will stay well out of it in that regard now.
Having said that I always hoped that Scumaker would retire before his luck ran out.Look what happened in that case.
Sad that another 5 riders lost their lives, but these guys & gals love that course & if I could could choose where it all ends, the TT would be one place that I would be happy with. [emoji6]
H&S might not kill it, but insurance premiums might do that - unless the individual teams pay part of the insurance and sponsors pay the rest. Perhaps the IOM government helps out a bit too?
It’s always sad for the people left behind when a loved one dies but nobody registers to ride the Isle of Man TT without knowing that they have a considerable chance of being killed. And if people are prepared to take that chance, then it shouldn’t be for the authorities to stop them.
The father of Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, who died racing pre TT, had it right.
He said those who live a life without risk merely exist and that his son lived.
Whether in business, an afternoon in the bookies or racing bikes we all have our own risk level but we all should have that buzz. I hope I never see the day a government tries to stop us all taking physical risks with our own bodies. That’s a very dangerous road indeed!
Is there not a story from around a century ago about a woman in the future who has a life free from all risk and pretty my h lives in a padded room listening to lift muzak. Drives her crazy…

I rode the TT circuit 40 years ago on my racing bike(no engine). The motor cyclists are taking a calculated risk.I have since had mishaps with skis, bikes horses and boats,I would rather die having lived than just existed.

100% this ^^^^^^^. If you aren’t living on the edge you’re taking up too much space!
