how deep a puddle can I survive? As the air intake is above cab roof level, I assume that that is the limit, as in a diesel there are no high tension electrics. Maybe the buoyancy of the cab an trailer would prevent suffice grip for traction
You would also have to take into account the height of the compressor intake.
The title is Ishmael. Ishmael being the son of Abraham and Sarai. Borne from Hagar, Abrahams second wife. Abrahams second wife (lucky guy he could have more than one) who legged it after being badly treated by Sarai. Genesis. The Jews view Ishmael as wicked. What relationship has the title to do with the question?
“Call me Ishmael” - opening line of Moby ■■■■. (just guessing)

Well if a driver is considering driving a truck underwater is it any wonder

Nice one
where is the compressor intake? Is the compressor rotary type turbine thing or is it a reciprocating thing with pistons? That video clip was horrid. Was the driver ok?

I to the best of my knowledge think the driver was ok. If you look closely you can see what looks, To be a person swimming away from lorry.
I would never post somthing like this for fun.
If your air intake is above the water line you are fine unless you have any vital electrics below the line of the water, its amazing how many diesel 4x4 off roaders with a snorkel fitted fall foul of this.
If your fine with that your engine will plod along. There is a vid on youtube of a Russian running a diesel car 12f under water with the air intake on a periscope
Though you need to remember your front and rear diff breathers along with your gearbox breathers can ■■■■ in water as they will be hot and the sudden cooling effect causes a back vacuum that can ■■■■ in water to the gearbox/diffs.
So change the fluids as soon as possible, that should not stop you getting through but it will cause long term damage sooner rather than latter if not changed, alternatively just extend the breathers higher up the chassis/cab
I have had water coming through my air vents in my 4x4, much to the annoyance of my passenger
Just reread, traction is down to weight, water depth and tyres, if in doubt bottle out.
Its not shameful and a dam sight less embarrassing than rolling a truck in a river
I won’t go deeper than half way up the wheels regardless air intake.
Landrover excluded

apologies to all Christian, Jewish, Muslim truckers who all, I believe share Abraham. No offence intended. I was thinking of how the Scania looked like a great white whale
