When on holiday do you miss work and spot foreign trucks and wonder where they are going to?
When off work do you long to be in the driving seat?
Is it the best job.Getting paid to listen to the radio and admire nice scenery.
Office workers sat in the same desk all week with no views and the same boring people they pretend to like but hate them.
With power steering and air con it is not bad.
But why not many lady drivers…I see many lady horse box drivers. Why is this.
There are thousands of female drivers in North America but then we have much better parking facilities. Roughing it as a male trucker in the UK is bad enough but weeing in bushes and ■■■■■■■■ under the trailer are probably things that bar the job to many women in the UK.
As for the job itself, it was something I’ve always wanted to do since climbing into my dad’s truck in 1988 for the first time as a 4 year old, an E reg DAF 2800 and the bug has lingered since. I started driving at 21 and travelled all over western Europe in the job and since 2009 have travelled to every part of Canada and the US. Sometimes I do admittedly hate the job, its so difficult to have a life outside of it but I always comes to miss it when I’m not doing it for any length of time.
Bloody hell a four yr old in an E reg 2800
The first lorry I had was a T reg 2800, so eight years older than your Dad’s one, talk about make a bloke feel old

■■■■■■■ jesus No!
My God, I can’t wait to finish work and get home and leave lorry driving behind me until tomorrow, once home it’s gone . Why don’t you take up Eddie Stobbart spotting when your off work? Or even better get a bird or some mates and get a life. I bet you’ve got one of them Big ( insert name here) stickers on your lorry, possibly the sadest people of all time . I think I’m a bit sad joining up to a lorry drivers forum, bit needs must. Being on holiday and looking at foreign trucks? No I’m out getting ■■■■■■ having a laugh like normal people do.

It might be ‘‘just a job’’ to you but many drivers are also enthusiasts.
I know a bloke who is a mechanic who has no interest in cars. Always found that a bit strange…

Heaven forbid somebody might have an interest in and enjoy the job they do.

Fair shout if you enjoy it, I’m purely doing it to earn a crust. But seriously , laying on the beach in Spain, Greece etc and looking at lorries going by wishing you was driving them is just a bit sad no ?

Well that explains the slippers
Well, I thought it was vaguely interesting ( if that’s the right word) that there were 3 identical Dafs behind me on the 62 this aft.
I’ve had a drink tonight as off tomorrow, but I honestly can’t remember what make of lorry I drive, probably would when sober , but I purely just get in the thing and drive it, I have no sense of it being my lorry, it’s just a tool of work. I can understand keeping the lorry in a reasonably clean condition, but due to some sad jobs worths who clean thier lorries inside and out every day , by hose and brush no lorry wash , I have to clean mine about twice a week when the job is job and finish. Nothing worse than cleaning a lorry when you could be at home.
When I’m on holiday work is at the very back of my mind. I enjoy driving whether it be a smart car or lorry. My firms sold all the hgvs as they just want to run more vans, the other hgv driver was kicking off saying he’s leaving just because he was being put in a van.
we’re not getting a pay cut so I couldn’t care less, Infact I’m able to do more hours for a class 2 rate in a nice 63 plate van
Maybe trucking is addictive to some, certainly not me.

No. Not for me either. The sight of a lorry with lights all over it and a shiny fuel tank only makes me think “why”?
I dont understand it. I want to work as few hours as possible thanks. But each to their own it doesn
t worry me if someone wants to spend their life polishing someone elses truck.
I cant understand why anyone would want to watch, say, golf on telly...or Eastenders or countless other things which I know beyond doubt to be stupid. We
re all different.
Drivings not a bad game to be in I suppose, but I
d rather be at home or on holiday.
But for, I reckon,98% of people, looking at trucks when on holiday and yearning to be at work is probably leaning towards the eccentric if not actually certifiable madness.
I would look at trucks if I was on holidays but its just sort of to admire them. A plain white cf is not going to grab my attention but if I see a nice one, I look. I don’t wish my holiday was over to go driving it or anything but I’m into lorries so I look.
I did give an hour photographing trucks in a truck stop in America a couple of years ago but again, it was just cause they were different. Don’t really see the problem with it to be honest.
i can’t last much more then a week off before i want to be back trucking i start to get road sick lol i’m still as truck mad as ever i’ve been the same since i was a young kid
Used to be when I went in on a Saturday morning with my dad to get ‘his’ truck ready for Monday morning.
Then I got into it myself when I was old enough and the job soon cured me of any starry eyed nonsense that was in me and I was cured!
Don’t look at all really know - I have other grown up things to ogle at!
If you prefer working to being at home you really need to reassess your life

You’ve been on Trucknet less than a month and already starting to sound like a stuck record. Well done, quite an achievement
