For loosing my temper with the Irishman I unreservedly and profusely apologize…

sometmes the job changes very quickly and i find i get a phone call early sunday evening for a 2 am star monday morning. but thats transport for ya it aint an office job with regular hrs

No I ain’t jacked yet but I have a few things lined up for the New Year, off the road at last.
I have been in the Transport Industry 25 years 20 on class one and I still think 2am start for a day man is unreasonable… :exclamation: :exclamation:

Smee you’re dead right its unreasonable. Its alright half this lot shouting the odds you’ve only gotta get up a bit early etc…but how do you get to sleep at 6pm, which you’d need to do to be up and in work at such a daft hour, when its not your normal work pattern? Also you work for a large company with lots of drivers so you’d think sureley they could accomodate.
Sure plenty of drivers like them early starts, but they aint for everyone.
And you didn’t lose your temper with an Irishman, he’s in the North, he’s British !!

Mike-C:
And you didn’t lose your temper with an Irishman, he’s in the North, he’s British !!

Technically he is UKish, the north isn’t part of GB. :stuck_out_tongue:

it is the birthright of all the people of Northern Ireland to identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British, or both, as they may so choose, and accordingly [the two governments] confirm that their right to hold both British and Irish citizenship is accepted by both Governments and would not be affected by any future change in the status of Northern Ireland.

from here
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_I … d_identity

he’s gonna tel us he is a paddy now !!

Yeah, I know they can claim to be British but their country isn’t part of Great Britain so i think they should be UKish instead. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think VOSA and the HSE would be interested in this…

after reading some of the post’s I think your heading down the wrong path with this, I’m surprised you still have a job, why don’t you just get on with it, OK so its no your normal start time, so what remember your not self employed someone as to be in charge and dish out orders after all.

LOOK on the bright side you will finish early

Lucy:
You had fair warning, so it’s your own fault if you don’t get the sleep. That’s transport.

I’m with Lucy. Lots of factories and offices finish at five o’ clock :unamused:

thats right lets just let the bosses trample over us
just because paddys do it we dont have to

paid as a day bloke work as a day bloke
want extra pay more

Smee:

Wheel Nut:
Why?

CRISPY:
WHY
If he an’t asking you to run bent he has’nt done anything wrong and if you have the bottle you can say NO :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Smee:
To expect a driver to undertake a 360 mile round trip having had less than three hours sleep:question:

If unable to move your normal sleep pattern by that amount, like me, and it WILL make you too tired to drive - DON’T DRIVE.

If you know in advance that you will not be able to get enough sleep, then tell the boss you cannot change your sleep pattern for the run and any decent boss will see your problem and realise that forcing the issue will only compromise safety.

If your boss is one of those that puts anything else before safety then leave.

its interesting reading this thread. I for 1 would have tried to do the earlier start, IF I felt it was safe to do so, I got a call the other day at 20:55 altering my start time, which literally meant I was in bed 5mins later at 21:00 to get anywhere near my desired amount of sleep. I usually survive of 6hrs of sleep, but did this job with only 4hrs sleep and with little or no ill effects, especially as I was tipping at Tescos .

I drive for the same firm as Smee (on nights) and TBH I dont know why they didnt get his or any other nightman in to do it by reducing the nightman’s rest and letting him finish Thurs/Fri night instead of Fri/Sat. It would make more sense to me and would cause the least disruption to sleep patterns etc. I’ve only been with the firm for a couple of months but Smee has got a point - some of the offices decisions and ideas do make you wonder i.e you run to the docks empty trailer to bring a box back to find another driver running a box down and coming back empty, or getting sent to get a box from the train at Brum to find out there actually isnt any to collect.

I aint complaining while they keep putting money in my bank though.

Do I rightly assume that you had enough sleep to safely drive to Tesco and then had some more sleep whilst there to refresh you for the return drive

Smee:
No I will need all my energy to sign on tomorrow. I have already told them to go whistle… :exclamation:

Smee, I think you’re doing the right thing in coming off the road!!!
If you want a 8-6 job, there are a few knocking about sweeping transport yards etc.

In my eyes, this has taken over from adey1 as the most ridiculous post ever on this site. I cannot believe the guys attitude especially as it is just before Xmas.
