Is this plate legal? Am I misunderstanding?

P.s. sorry about pic size, am on phone browser! Gonna go hook up, hopefully somebody in the know will be along before I’m ready to leave

As an employee there is no legal right for you to be able to check on the mot or insurance status of an employers vehicle. If a problem arises re the mot or insurance it is entirely the employers responsibility. No blame can be attached to the employee if the mot or insurance is not valid. Frankie says RELAX!

That seems to cost money which is completely pointless when you take on board my previous post.

Well that’s that cleared up then!

Thanks for the replies. No doubt over maintenance of the vehicle, I just had it ingrained in my head that there are certain things a driver should never enter the public road without being sure of, and one of those things was seeing and being satisfied with its MOT status. Not only was I wrong, I was looking at the wrong bloody document these past 2 years!

pierrot 14, it would make sense wouldn’t it? The slightly worrying thing (well, it would be if I cared what other people got up to/knew etc!) was that I announced the above in my traffic office, and there was no ridicule because NOBODY knew the difference between this thing being a plate and/or an MOT. None of the drivers, none of the planners (I can forgive them) etc. The driver trainer even looked confused.

Mind you, I’d rather be around people who are honest about what they do and don’t know than those who state their opinion as testament :sunglasses:

Amen. Best comment for ages. You`re not about to go looking for a new job as a researcher for a political party anytime soon then?

In the first place, that website charges you a fee even though the tax and MoT status (and MoT history) is available free of charge through the gov.uk website. In the second place it won’t tell you the MoT status of a lorry anyway (nor will the gov.uk website).

Sent using smoke and mirrors

Ring this number 01792458888 (DVSA)

tell the operator you wish to check a Goods vehicle MOT expiry, they will put you through to another grumpy sod,
give them the Reg number or C number if a trailer & they will tell you the MOT expiry, all for the price of a phone call!

Download an app called vehicle smart. Mot tax an history details for any vehicle. Just checked it works with your truck

No it doesn’t
it won’t work with anything that has to be MOT’d at a DVSA station
the only way to find out without having site of the test cert is via the phone number I posted

Good App but doe’s not show MOT data for the commercial vehicles that I entered, including the op details…

That App simply uses the (free) information available on the gov.uk website and, just like the website, doesn’t show MoT details for lorries. It either lies (by telling you that a new-ish lorry’s MoT isn’t due yet (even though it is) or tells you that the information is “not held by DVLA” (which is true).

Another tip; I have just spoken to a most helpful lady at DVSA Swansea on 0300 123 9000 who was able to immediately provide an MOT test expiry date for the ‘C’ number given to her

It tells me mine is not due until 2019…

I’ve also tried every registration that I can remember from our old fleet (all 59 plated Dafs) and for all of them it says “No details held by DVLA”
