I seem to recall car transporters being Class 3 with a trailer
dieseldave:
Class 2 was a 3 or 4 axle rigid (with or without trailer)
And IIRC, you could have a Class 3 with or without trailer too.
I always looked at class 2 as the real class 1.
Great how threads meander & chage course , from the original beginnings to something almost entirely unrelated .
So , the general consensus is that Class 3 ceased to exist , before the Pizza Box incident
.

class 3 was for rigid 18 tonners, you could not drive 18 tonners without a class 3,i know because my father was a class 3 driver for many yearswas class-three not simply for 2 axles rigids, and class-two for more than 2 axles but not artic.
weights used to be a little less than now, I’m sure it was 16, 24 & 30t for 4, 6 & 8 wheelers.
I can remember artics goint from 32 to 38 and on to 44, but I can’t remember when the rigids increased their weights. ?
And did you used to need a class 1 for a draw-bar setup ?

Right Glory Boy, let’s get a few things straight…IF, and I mean IF you are real, then I feel sorry for you, in many many ways…
However we are a close knit community and have seen a “wind up” or two in the past, hell, some of us have even been the guilty party!
So we are naturally suspicious when someone new comes along and posts a load of old tosh, and sadly what you have posted is tosh!
Take a step back pal and think about it, you come on here giving it the big one about you being a fully qualified driver with the ink still wet on your licence, and start throwing your toys because the boss wants to assess you before letting you loose in a 100k truck. Did you really expect sympathy or a positive response from that? You claim just because you nailed your test reverse, that you’re then an expert in reversing, which to us in the know means nothing compared to real life reversing. And the reason we all know this, is that we’ve all been there, done it and made a right hash of it…
Then you make a few posts that have nothing to do with driving, and seem to ignore any possible reversing mistakes you’ve made
Which in the whole make you look like a walking disaster, as you can’t remember your own computer password, can’t use a keyboard without covering it in pop, and then we have the creme de la creme of you falling off your scooter…
CAN YOU NOW SEE HOW WE MIGHT THINK YOU ARE JUST WINDING US UP?

Now I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, and if possible help people, as do most members here…
So if by some slim chance you are real, can I give you some advice?Drop the attitude!
Don’t think people are out to get you, as thinking that is a self-fulfilling prophecy!
Accept that at the tender age of 23 you have a lot to learn in life, and from your peers!
Don’t believe or take to heart everything that is said to you!
And stop trying to impress people, as that’s not working out too well for you!P.S. Sorry but even if your Vespa does have 300 bhp (which it hasn’t) it’s hasn’t got a fraction of the Torque that a truck has, and those two things combined make up real engine power…
well said Evil8 beezle
I accept my ban.
Sorry too stressful to keep going. Please dont hate me.

I have never driven a drawbar outfit (Wag & Drag) so wasn’t entirely sure of the licence needed but do seem to remember people driving them who couldn’t drive artics.
I presume the requirements changed in the big licence shake up in the late 90s (C+E stuff) but was there any ‘grandfather rights’ for drivers who had passed thier class 3 prior to this to continue with drawbars, in the same way older people can drive a 7.5t on a car licence but someone who passed their tast after 97(ish) can’t.

Thank you Kerragy for this thread. It’s kept me entertained for the past couple of days. Anyone who took offence it took this seriously needs to lighten up.

+1
It was funny.
Most trolls on here are pretty pathetic but at least this one had some thought and was funny. I actually laughed out loud at the scooter getting put in the lift and someone pooing in his topbox and when he started offering to give advice about lorry driving to anyone who wanted it, well, that was comedy gold
It was from the dozy school of trolling. Meant as a laugh. He wasnt nasty to anyone.
Its just a shame he was such a tube and slipped up by posting from the wrong account

C + E with 102 restriction.
Glory Boy:
I passed my C+E test a month ago at big cost to me and I am wondering if this treatment is normal or just because I am new. I was working in a warehouse and I had an accident which wasn’t my fault but I am starting to think that I have wasted a lot of my retraining money from the insurance getting lisenses for lorry driving. I am suffering with PTSD because of my accident which means I have flashbacks and can’t drive a stacker truck any more or until I am better. I used to look at the lorry drivers when they were tipping at my wold work and it looked like a good doss waiting for hours to be honest that is why I got my drivers lisenses for lorrys not being funny just honest. I got a job with a company and thought I was a lorry driver but obviously not the case. Yesterday was my first day and I spent ages with people explaining how to do basic stuff and what to do if I got questions and to be honest a lot of boring stuff but because I am a good worker I listened as best I could and signed where the people told me to. At the end of the day I was told by boss that I was going to be shunting trailors in the yard today to get experience not being funny but this is lorry driving not rocket science I have taken my tests I am fully qualified there was reversing as part of the test DUH! I know how to reverse in lorrys. I have phoned in sick today because I don’t want to be in the yard being told what to do and how to reverse a lorry by someone who has the same license as me it is an insult. That isn’t the end of it though when I phoned in I asked what lorry I would be getting when I came back and it is an old one. I told them I only knew how to drive automatic lorrys and they have given me an old manual one I think but I can drive a car so Im not too worried about it. The thing is I am a new driver so I have been trained on new lorrys so I think it would make sense to give the newer lorrys to newer drivers because they can work them best. Do all companies treat drivers like this or have I just got a bad boss? I am beginning to see why there is a shortage LOLOL.P.S. They also told me I am having somebody with me for at least the first week!!!
Im a bit mystified as to your attitude. Youe just got your class1, and got yourself a job. The company youre working for clearly want you to get off on the right foot, making allowances for the fact youre a new driver, and wanting you to get as trouble free an initial first few months as possible, and youre whinging about it? Do yourself a favour and knuckle down and take it one step at a time.
The contrast between yours and my experience couldnt be greater. I passed my test on a Tuesday, and Friday saw me turn up at a place (on agency), to have the paperwork and the unit keys thrown to me, and a vague idea as to where they thought the trailer was located, and left to get on with it. I had to ask them about the tacho as Id not seen the drawer type one before, and got moaned at for not knowing. Those first few jobs were an eye opener for me, and the learning curve nearly perpendicular. Even with plenty of 7.5 experience, I was wondering what Id got myself into. It was the thought of all the money I would be throwing down the drain that stopped me turning tail and fleeing!
The upshot of all this is dont knock a company that cares enough to train you properly, and learn to walk before you run. You may be qualified, but that doesnt make you a driver. Remember this, the most dangerous driver youll come across in life will be the guy who has nothing to learn. That one has his eyes wide-shut, and is a nasty accident waiting to happen.
Wooosh.
I’ve also enjoyed the thread!
Its been a right laugh, although a small part of me was very VERY worried that this could be a real poster/pleb. We sadly do have them in the world and I’m almost disappointed that you’re a fraud, you’d have made even me look good! I do hope the mods don’t ban you, although I suspect Glory Boy’s account may be banned and you’ll have to go for another one next time.
Keep it up!
