Is this dcpc trainer talking from where the sun don't shine?

My father-in-law phoned me for some advice the other day regarding 45 min breaks. He had just done a dcpc coarse on drivers hours and was told by the gentleman taking the coarse that if he drove for 1 hour then took a 45 min break he would then only be able to drive for 3.5 hours before needing another 45. I said this was rubbish as because if he’d just had a 45 then his driving time would be reset so he could drive for 4.5 hours before needing another break. Not really sure why I’m asking cos I know I’m right but it did make me doubt myself for about 1/100th of a second.

Do not doubt yourself!

You just know that a load of crap is going to come next …!!

Was the course with a LGV training school ? - bet it was not

PS - I can tell from what you wrote that it was not a smooth course but a COARSE course

DCPC ■■■■■ the fat one.

That is all.

I have heard this particular version of the rules from quite a few drivers just lately but they weren’t sure where they heard it.

I also heard you HAVE to have a 45m break before commencing the 10th hour of driving and can only ‘split’ the first break of the day into two parts … which did all come from DCPC trainers

I’m off on a DCPC course myself tomorrow to check out a place I know is giving bum information on DCPC courses. I’ll see what they make of this one.

Don’t dare question there knowledge shep I almost caused a riot when I questioned our trainers knowledge he was not a happy bunny.

Shep I knew a bloke who spouted that rubbish about having to have a 45 at the end of 9 hours to gain the 10th. We were on a 2 vehicle job. I was back in the yard, washed, swept and mopped and leaving for home when he got back.

Report the trainer to Jaupt :imp:

Surely you would HAVE to have a 45 before starting the tenth hour because how can you not have a break after 9 hours

You could legally do …
3.5 drive
45 break or 15 +30
3.5 drive
45 break or 15 +30
3.0 drive

A 45 break does not have to be taken just before the tenth hour of driving unless you have done …
4.5 drive
45 break or 15 +30
4.5 drive
45 break or 15 +30
1.0 drive

This DCPC rubbish is like a cancer spreading through the transport industry.I have asked a number of drivers from both passenger and haulage and very few were happy with the standard of training. As it stands its unfit for purpose.

One doing the rounds at our yard is if you have to have driven for at least an hour for any break to count.

Exactly. Im not against training but this system isnt right.

The course is only as good as the material being used and the knowledge of the bloke taking it end off

The question is…who trains the trainers? :unamused:

Read it wrong, I’m presuming now that the instructor said that you would have to take an extra 45 before the tenth hour.
I was assuming that the driving hours was to the max

Who trains the trainers is a very good point
Most of the ones I’ve come across just read it from a folder
So who makes the folders they get it from?

So far I have not come across a driver who said that the dcpc trainer from a LGV training school spouted the wrong info on driver regs …

I am one of those horrid people who take your money and subject you to 7 hrs of listening to me spout BS.

I have had both drivers & TMs tell me that my training is far from dull or boring.

The reason is that I was a Class 1 driver for over 27 years before being taken off the rd due to health reasons.

Luck was on my side as I was an Agency driver & the agency being a very large one deemed it a good idea to have most of their trainers be ex drivers or a few are still drivers.

Most information for drivers is from other drivers(MMTM) or from a TM who wants lots of work done for minimum pay.

Most of the drivers on my training days go away more informed than when they arrived.

I don’t know if it’s true but I’ve heard that wannabe trainers can buy off the shelf DCPC courses.

Given that we seem to hear the same nonsense being taught by different DCPC trainers I suspect it may be true.
