Is there any kind of grant/financial support for acquiring c

Hi,

I passed my driving test 6 years and I am looking to acquire my class C, which I have found is generally priced at £1300. Unfortunately I dont currently posess the funds and was wondering if there any financial support one can seek? Especially as it is a work related sort of loan.

Probably best speaking to your bank about it.

I don’t think there are any government grants or similar generally for this, so you’ve got to do it off your own bat. It’s an expensive outlay for sure, but the best bets are low cost loans from banks and 0% credit cards.

There are training companies who offer “finance” but it’s usually at stupid interest rates and the amount they charge for training is usually stupid too, eg: £2000 for class C.

Finally, you might find some companies will put you through the course if you work for them for X years (usually 2), but generally you’ll be on lower pay and there’s often a reason why they want to pay for this, ie: no one wants to work for them for 2 years normally. I believe from memory Maritime and Wincanton might offer something like this - the latter being preferable from what I hear.

Some job centres are paying - I keep getting requests for quotes from DWP so they must be putting people through the training.

James Marshall trust near me has put put people through before. You needed to be under 25 to qualify though.

Generally £1300? Have you been speaking to a broker? If you don’t know what a broker is, read about them on this forum. They need to be avoided at all costs. Do your homework to avoid getting ripped off!

My local council payed 80% of my class one. But had to prove I had a job to walk into once passed

New credit card with 0% interest for perhaps 2 years :bulb:

That’s about the going rate, I’ve payed out 1400 for my C plus CPC. There’ll be another 1300 on top of that once it’s passed for C+E. That’s a local training school to me.

Forum sponsor is 1260 with the discount. Place local to be wanted 1200 for the same in a 15 year old manual

Work in a job you hate for a few years, put the pennies away and hey presto! Training paid for

i honestly hope not! sorry to sound nasty about it and not directly having a go at you OP but for me i absolutely grafted in a job i hate to fund what i wanted to do. and for the job centre to pay for people to do it is just going to be a joke ! i worked for the DWP and they funded layabouts to do there railway engineer course around £2-3k and also funded SIA now there are no jobs in either of them as its flooded with new passes. for me it would just be an insult for everyone who has worked hard to get it and for the job centre to give it free.

anyway none of that was aimed at you lol its just a discussion i was having about it. i think a credit card would be your best bet with 6-12 months 0% interest. get everything passed then get it paid off before you get charged anything.
best of luck if this is something you are looking for
