Is there any experienced audi mechanics on here

i need some advice, a friend of mine left a 1999 audi a6 2.5tdi avant into a very reputable garage to get a new timing belt fitted… he had left the garage at top ten mins untill the car started to chug and broke dowun… what happened was, we think… is that the powered steering belt came of and got caught around the timing belt which caused the engine to go out of timing, the engine is not done but the cylinders and the rocket covers need some attention, the garage is going to pay for this although they are not saying that they did anything wrong, has anyone ever heard of this being a problem when a timing belt is changed on an a6… i personalt think that it was bed workmanship… maybe not, i dont know,

can anyone give any input…

Hiya

Spoke to my mate about this as he has an A6 Tdi, although its the 1.9.
Anyway his local Audi specialist said there was a modification done to this car which involved changing the pulleys and power steering belt at the same time as doing the timimg belt.

Do you know if it was an Audi garage that carried out the job ?

I’ll try and get more details. There is an audi forum he uses so I’ll get that too.

Cheers

Drew

I would be shouting at the top of my voice making sure the garage accepted FULL liability and insist on a courtesy car until yours is repaired and make sure i got the receipts for all parts fitted to the new repair to make sure it wasnt bodged.

thanks for your help stinky, no it wasnt an audi garage, but the guys that fixed it are good mechanics they normally fix £250,000 rally cars…

any advice would be good stinky…

i must try now and have a look for audi forums…
