Is the Atego a van or a truck

Mercedes Atego has just recently won International Truck of the Year, are the old eyes giving up on me or would anybody else consider the Atego a van ■■?

They make Crapegos in loads of sizes 7.5’s up to 18 tonners. I have a 15 tonner and drag. Theres no way on this earth it could win truck of the year, no way. Its quite a nice truck when it works but a, the trucks put together on the friday before summer hols in merc factory and b the dealer we happen to use is well RUBBISH. They couldnt fix a kids party in a theme park.

I’d say anything over 3.5T is generally considered a truck.

Unfortunately never driven an Atego, but i think they’re a nice looking little truck.

I’ve driven an 18t atego (52 plate - old style), old style 7.5t and a new shape 12t (59 plate). The 12 tonner wasn’t too clever really, drove a brand new Iveco Eurocargo 12t the very next day and that was a whole lot nicer to drive, didn’t have an air seat as the atego does but it handled and drove pretty much like a van would where as the atego felt a bit heavier and more truck like. I also had to use both hands to get the frigger in to reverse, you physically couldn’t push the gear lever over through the gate with one hand. All that considered I wouldn’t say the atego is anything like a van at all really.

Just to add to the question is an Atego a van or a truck, well it can also be a coach :open_mouth:

I had to use both hands to get it into reverse :open_mouth:

LOL, glad I’m not the only one then :open_mouth: The newer they are the worse it is!

This one was an 09 plate :open_mouth:
I would have thought that even though it was built on an Atego chassis and they could have done away with the engine hump, but obviously not :unamused:

The one I drove went to mertrux for a service, think they must’ve realised and greased it or something as it’d freed up a little the next day and I could do it with one hand just about. After a couple of hours it went back to normal again though :grimacing:

I used to have a 53 plate 26tonne Atego concrete mixer. It was then superceded by the Axor.

Bet it was just like driving a ■■■■■■ van then :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:
