Whilst weekended in Poole, I listened to the archers omnibus, now when I was away for weeks on end this was something to look forward to. It just seems to be a bit behind the times!
So:
The farming business is going through a rough patch for the Grundy’s and as always they have no money, So Joe starts to surf the net and finds out that Borchester Haulage and Storage are looking for HGV drivers. He mentions this to Eddie and suggests he calls them.
The story for the next few weeks covers the trials and tribulations of passing an HGV test, it would also educate the public about problems caused by bad driving and lane hoggers on our roads.
Eventually Eddie passes his test and sets out on his own, he makes the mistake of telling his mate Monkey that he has a load of spirits on board, and the truck is stolen overnight. Because Eddie has a bit of form, he ends up in the nick and Clarrie threatens to divorce him.
The story continues and Eddie is proved innocent, but his boss stops him from taking his truck home to the farm because the Ministry are on his back and the insurance wont cover any more theft.
At the local Truck Stop, Eddie finds out that the country and western singer Jolene is working there, and starts using the truckstop bar instead of the Bull.
One night Eddie pulls Jolene again and ends up in the truck with her, later that night there is a tap on the cab door, Eddie tells Jolene to be quiet while he has a look. To his surprise he sees Linda Snell who is now on the game since Robert left.
Im sure that there are many more tales you can add to this and bring the Archers into the 21st century
An everday tale of trucking folk
