I thought side impact bars where supposed to skite away cars. I cant even think how this could happen? How could a car be at a angle to get under a truck like that?

i wondered what happen to the side impact bar. will have to go and get the mud gaurd fixed before passing junction 14 or vosa would stop him.

Side bars are only there to absorb the impact not deflect cars. Have you seen most of them, a fat man leaning on them could bend them. They are similar to crumple zones on cars, designed to give.

That thought had struck me too.
I think she’s going to have to pay to get that mudguard fixed.
Which side of the trailer do you think that is, bearing in mind the position of the mudguard?

OS, looks like she didnt take any notice of the 3,2,1 markers and was about to miss her junction so tried taking a shortcut under the trailer.
I’ve taxed worse

It looks like a drive axle on the left of the unit

If a “fat man” could bend them, then they aren’t gonna do any impact absorption when 1 tonne of metal hits them.

It’s the off side, that is the front axle of the trailer with the mudguard pulled forward.

Is it just my warped SOH or is that pic friggin hilarious?
No doubt one of the resident TOTC’s* will be on a moment telling me I’m pathetic and how would I like it if it had been my mother/daughter/grandma/auntie in the car etc etc.

You must be frigging blind…
You can see straps going to trailer chassis, but also it’s plainly a trailer.

Unfair… I know what Malc thought it was as I had the same initial thought too. It looks like the photo was taken alongside the n/s drive axle, and that is the front n/s end of the trailer you can see in the pic, obviously because it’s sitting on the 5th wheel just out of shot. However, we can see from the more recently posted pic that it’s actually the other side and the wheel in shot is trailer axle 1.

Well I for one would be quite happy as they survived with barely a scratch, and if it was their fault they are unlikely to repeat the mistake, so what’s not to like?

That makes it clearer.
Not blind, just ■■■■■■ after a beer festival.
Definitely the truck drivers fault, he’s got at least another 2 turns on the landing leg handle,
hi,i was the artic driver in the picture, the clio driver swerved to avoid bunching trafic in lane 3 and hit the back of a van in lane 2 deflecting her at 90 deg under the first axle o/s on the trailer she got out with barely a scratch.first i knew was when i felt a bump and started slowing down.

Eyup.
I’ve never been driving anything involved in something like this, but I’ve recovered one or two !
What was the first thought that entered your head when you looked in that mirror & the awfull dawn of realisation hit you that something’s not quite right here ■■?
not suspended or anything, managed to get the trailer back to base fill in accident book and had a full day ahead on mon but my knee swelled up and pain in shoulder so booked off sick.
when i parked up on hard shoulder i took a few seconds to gather myself, thought it might look like an abattoir floor in the clio but she was out and running up to me before i hit the tarmack and asked if I was ok.i just stood there amazed.forgot to ask her for lottery numbers for sat,lol
