Is not letting another back in a new thing

I’m on tippers with a load bonus, slowing down and courtesy is really NOT an option. Don’t take it personally but some of us are in profit oriented trucks with a carrot dangling in front of the windscreen all day

So the scenario is your trundling along a motorway, your approaching an entry slip and you see another HGV on its way down that slip road. You move out into lane 2 for them. They then proceed to roll their cruise control up to the limiter while your still in lane 2 leaving you out there unable to move back in. Your slightly past them though so whilst you could reduce speed and come in behind that potentially going to cause more problems behind with you making other drivers brake and surely it’s good etiquette and courteous for them to allow you back in first seeing as you moved out for them which you don’t HAVE to do, it’s just polite to do so. Has it always been like this or were drivers move courteous to each other at one point?

Yes this is a bit of a pet hate of mine too, and I think its a more recent thing. Someone did it to me the other day, moved out to let him on and then he sat on my inside at 56 :imp: :imp:

I’m glad I don’t need to trundle about at speeds where this happens, anyone tries that pish they’ll get a surprise when I ■■■■ off past at 62.

Your a coach driver then?

Not at all, just a decent limiter. Never late in a V8 and all that.

Undertaker with your load bonus and chasing the carrots , is the reason why the general public hate all lorry drivers with your careless and dangerous driving antics cutting up the general public .
I bet you drive wearing your hiviz on , total Muppet.
DVSA say incentives are illegal but your attitude ■■■■■ .
You have proven again that all tipper drivers are brain dead with your flat out all day mentality .

I used to think stuff like that must be deliberate arrogance/selfishness.
However after ‘speaking to’ a couple of drivers that did ridiculous things, it became clear they just didn’t have ANY anticipation or awareness whatsoever, it was obvious they were completely unaware of what had just happened and they weren’t faking the ignorance either. In the sliproad example they might be thinking about something else in a trance like state, check a mirror when they realise (late) that they need to, see that the lane is clear and move in to it, then resume the trance like state. They wouldn’t even have known you moved over for them. Who says driverless vehicles aren’t operating yet…

Lorries - I always, where possible, move over

Cars - depends on the situation however I would expect a car to be able to out accelerate a truck if need be

Yesterday had a car sat waiting for me to move over, matching my speed, despite me having another artic down my other side. Did he stick his foot down and get passed? No he pulled in behind, then finally found the accelerator pedal to get alongside my cab in quick time and stick his fingers up and then speed off

Feel sorry for you pal.

In such a rush you can’t afford a reduction of 1mph for 10 seconds every now and again.

That’s literally all we are talking.

If I’m doing 56 by the time I cross the dotted line and clearly going faster than the guy (or gal) who moved over, I’m not going to hit the breaks for the sake of good sportsmanship, and nor would I expect it from anyone I’ve moved over for. But unless that is clearly the case, I let them by as a rule, and would expect the same. I also slow down to avoid the 20-minute overtake scenario, and people who don’t should rot in hell.

56mph over 1 mile takes 1 minute and 4 seconds.

55mph over 1 mile takes 1 minute and 5 seconds.

54mph over 1 mile takes 1 minute and 6 seconds.

It shouldn’t take a whole mile to get passed, but you telling me that on tippers your that rushed that quite literally 1 or 2 seconds is too long to add on to your journey to let someone in who has just been courteous to you?

How about I never move out of lane 1 to allow a tipper driver to merge then? If they are too rushed to let me back in.

back in the days of last century there was non of this letting in . anyone coming in on the on slip coasted down ready to stop if the road ahead was chocka . i bleve this pushing in / lording it on the sliproad came in about the time we let poland and lithuania into the EU . they see kindness as a sign of weakness, thats not being racist its true, run a test sometime ->you hold a door open for a pole and they walk right in without so much as a nod of thanks

You are aware that Poles and Lithuanians are a nationality and not a race don’t you?

It’s impossible to be racist to someone of the same race.

Top man. 44tonnes being driven like a transit van. I’d rather be earning transit van wages than being the most detested of all lorry drivers… which Is saying something on its own…

Reckon you’re both wasting your time with that guy, if he can’t see that his boss is ripping the ■■■■ out of him, he’s hardly going to take any notice of anybody on here.

now thats a British trait, getting all arzey over someone elses opinion on forums. you want to check your blood pressure i bet its high but you wont go back to the doc because YOU are always right, see …now am i rite ?

Thanks for answering my question to you on the last page…you’ve just confirmed what I already thought.

Good grief chaps, climb down from your ivory towers,. It was said completely tongue in cheek; purely as a bit of fun. I am not irresponsible or reckless, so don’t make assumptions please. I used to attend RTCs for HM Cironer and have seen first hand the carnage and devastation that can be caused by recklessness. To reiterate, my comment was purely meant to give a little smile to a few people

Maybe a tactical use of an emoji will clear up any misunderstanding next time. :bulb:

Thing is though mate there are many idiots who think just like that (some actually on here) making their boss a fortune while risking their licences and livliehood on a daily basis, …but they are too pig ■■■■ thick to see it.
