that due to the number of potholes & the general state of the road, the Army are going to take over the A5 between the M69 & M42 so that their drivers can have a preview of what to expect from the roads when they get out to Afghanistan?
Another one they could try is the M74 that’s another shocker!!

You are a bit out of date there with the fathoms bit, the hydrographers now use metres for depth of water
M90 is a bad one, the A725 round the bend at shawhead that pothole could easily send a artic on its side. Was on the news the scottish government is having crisis talks with bear and amey etc because there is a estimated 2.2billion pounds worth of repairs outstanding. You wonder why you buy a nice car only to drive on this ■■■■ and also get arse raped wae fuel prices 
I travel a lot round Scotland and quite a bit in northern england and imo the worst pot holes are to be found in the east and south of glasgow city centre. The one on aitkenhead road a fringin bus fell in it the whole ground just collapsed!!
Apparently this is true, not only dodgy roads are being used for familiarisation training, but also the probable reaction of hostile communities is being taken into consideration. The trials will be rolled out to certain areas including Luton, Bradford etc etc etc…
