Suedehead:
I"ll wager that most of the “cant wait to get back work brigade” are worried that another driver will take THEIR lorry out.
I’ve got to admit, seeing as I live in ‘‘MY’’ truck more than I live at home, I’ll be mildly miffed if ‘‘MINE’’ has gone out (considering the amount of day motors left in yard) or even severely ■■■■■■ off if some dirty ■■■■ reptile is using it.
After saying that, it certainly does not bother me enough to want to go back to ■■■■ work.
However it will only mean (another) ruck with the guvnor, on return to work, when I’m still sat outside his office getting it back to the state that I left it before the hols, when it should have left 2 hours ago, but hey…I’ll still get paid for it.

As would I. 100 odd motors, plenty used for shift work yet they might send a trampers unit out. I have been told by my planner that mine would not be used but that is no guarantee. One of the other office staff could have a job that needs doing, look on the system, happen to pick my unit as its standing and assign said job to it. They don’t care who I am or what my wants are, to them its just a truck and a job that needs covering. I will however be informed on Friday if I’m working the Monday. I hope I am, nearly £30 an hour for Bank Holiday rate! That American holiday isn’t going to pay for itself!
I can’t see why some members on here can’t understand that some of us genuinely enjoy driving trucks and it’s not just a job to us but also a hobby. I’m exactly like this, I’ve a university degree and do this job because I enjoy it and choose to be away from home!
As far as I’m concerned there’s nothing sad about being “cab happy” and actually it’s quite sad that people do a job that they have little to no interest in and can’t wait to get home from, that’s just my input but everyone is entitled to their own view

good for you my man.
if your mad for tar, have a good truck, and love the experience then happy days for you.
your now hitting benelux i think? after that becomes the norm, then theres always somewhere else a bit different.
crack on and get the fun and experience at the same time.as soon as you can wangle a overnight within a hop of the funspots of antwerp and the like, then it makes a change from happy hour in ballymena…hey!!!
once the novelty wears off if it ever does, then you can tailor the job to suit yourself, drop out of top gear, and slow the pace if it suits you.
i only work when it suits me and only if the truck is full spec with the required irish mafia accessories.
theres no fun plobbing in a fleet spec at 52mph…keep er lit…
Still living with the old day apparitions Rob…was always nice to get home, spend as much time as we could with the kids, before going away for the next 2/3 months…bloody hell, i certainly missed being away from my wife and family, missing them growing up, but because of me giving them a good standard of living, i treasure every moment now, that i didnt have back then…as for the whippersnapper with the degree, i dont think you have a family life, i think you only have yourself to look after…rather than a family…but as we always say…each to their own, theres a difference in Having to earn a crust…than earning for the sake of of it.
back at work but not so keen when we were all given a shovel each and told to clear the yard with snow! wont name and shame the the big retail company (I like my job) but think if dozy was there he would have hit the manager with the shovel

Well, I couldn’t wait to get back to work today, and half of eastern Europe drives “my” lorry, in fact Piotr or Stanislav are normally stood in the yard grinning up at me and saying “no turn off engine, I go now” as soon as the handbrake goes on. But because I only work six months a year I adopt the attitude that when I am working, I ought to put some effort in. Plus, because I’m a limper and things will be going a bit quiet over the next few months, firstly I need to earn money whenever it is there to be earned, and secondly experience has taught me that the agency tends to favour their more co-operative drivers when there is limited work available.
Was supposed to be back at work today. Sadly I came down with the flu on Xmas Eve and have been in my bed until this afternoon. Feeling like death warmed up, company not expecting me in before Tuesday.
I’ve also lost about 6 lbs by simply not eating anything for a few days.

You and me both - cracking ten days off - 102F and stuck in bed feeling pretty rough tbh - no sign of improvement yet - this one has been a right b***h. Started on the Saturday.

You have sympathies! Genuine influenza is awful. I’ve had it twice in my life. Stuck in bed for 9 days. No sneezing or blocked nose like a cold, couldnt talk, move or do anything. Really painful. Can understand how it kills old people. They say you can tell the difference between a heavy cold and the flu is if you can actually get up and move with a cold. I started to come down within it one Halloween party. By next morning couldn’t even open my eyes. Got a photo of me in fancy dress with a sweaty forehead, red face and blood shot eyes, and it wasn’t booze
I got bitten by two mosquitos in Accra back in Sept. Spent a month wondering if that was “the one”. Two people killed at work last year with malaria.
Finished Friday before Xmas and already dreading doing back on 2nd of January.
It’s just a job that fits in round my life these days and I have no real interest in it.
Sadly I’m not a proper trucker who lives for it
