Traffic getting home is pants of a night at 5pmMaybe wait a bit and leave at 6? Wasting an hour is better than wasting a night away from home when not needed?
I dont see any real reason to stay at work that doesn’t have an answer for it.
Cost of travelling? Is there nothing closer to home that removed the travelling, therefore you can effectively drop a bit of wages and it will have zero effect because you’d not be earning but woukdnt have to whack it on fuel.
Time the journey takes? As above hang around a bit, leave for home a bit later, look something closer?
I’m not saying you’re wrong by the way, we all have our own circumstances and that, I just can’t envisage myself ever willingly stopping at work, if that did become the case for me I’d be changing my work sharpish.
You just don’t grasp the reasons do you ! I don’t have to justify my after work choices to any one if they’re not hurting any one , odd may it seem to some others will understand
1st I’m single , live with my Mum and olde brother , also rest of family live close by so don’t need to be home in week unless some thing drastic happens
2nd I work with a couple of good blokes and we do socolise after work
3 rd I’ve got certain health problems that the quietness and solitude of an evening help
4th I’m a tank polisher
Sorry if you can’t still grasp that , I suppose that’s what working for large firms does for you Vs my 10 co workers in total
I certainly ain’t having a pop at you mate, you’ve gotta do what suits yourself at the time.
However if it was me, I don’t mind nights out, never have, and it’s all made easier by the 27 quid I get as exs which I just use for pocket/beer money, never really thought of it as part of a wage,.always kept them separate, so if I was cabbing it I’d feel a bit cheated tbh 
So again if it was ME (I know you ain’t me so don’t take offence 
) I’d be looking for something that was handy,.AND get paid for cabbing it,.that’s all I’m saying.
But crack on with it if you’re happy.
