I don’t know how much removals drivers get on average, but from what I know, it’s bloody hard work, makes the £60 per day offered here seem laughable really…your views??

I worked for a removal firm in Brackley nearly 20years ago and was taking £250 a week home back then on class 2.Peanuts and monkies spring to mind would you want a bloke moving you get paid less than your kettle and toaster is worth?
I work for a removal company and whilst the wage is not great, £60 per day is taking the mickey and I doubt they will fill that position at that rate. In the current economic climate, most removal companies have noticed the prices they are charging are being squeezed by the clients but the training etc that goes into being a ‘good’ removalman means that company’s like mine are paying the guys as much as they can just to keep them. Good removalmen are hard to find, anyone can move furniture but to move fragile pieces around the world without damage requires a lot of skill.
think thats bad, one of the lads on the irish site got a job with a company class 1 work 70e a day the minimun wage in ireland is 8.65 and they had him doing the 15hr spread 70/15 = 4.66 per hr.
i got a call today from an agency asking me was i available to work for them doing airfreight/ADR hourly rate of 10.50e are agencies/employers on ■■■■■■■ drugs these days,we are so called pro drivers i would get more working in BK/local shop and not have the responsibilty of driving a unit&trailer worth about 160k not to mention the load and possible penalty points on my licence.
The problem is there are people out there who will work all day long for this kind of money And the more these boys do it, the lower the wages will get
We had a new TM start a few months ago who thought we were on about 40 quid a day for 14 hour shifts He`s also using a British contractor who is willing to work for far less than us just to get the work
I thought that Northampton was in the ‘Golden Triangle’ & that wages were higher there than anywhere else in the country, it seems that’s no longer the case.
A mate of mine has just gone for a job, it’s paying 385 a week & 20 a night out, that’s going to nett under 400 a week with 4 nights out, although it’s monthly pay & the lorry is a ten year old FH, it’s container work so plenty of hanging around the docks & getting loaded/unloaded will mean working maximum hours most weeks, not exactly worth getting excited about. The thing is it’s the first job he’s found in six weeks of looking, none of the local agencies have got much, he’s been getting a day here & a day there. My mate is a good worker, plenty of experience, presentable, good timekeeper etc etc etc & he can’t find anything decent, it’s not a good situation
