Is it law or a company rule?

I have never in my life done a manual entry, I have no need to do it, if it was the law then I am breaking it. I have been pulled by VOSA and never even mentioned my lack of manual entry’s. My morning checks are 5 mins, you can’t possibly take 15 as some has suggested. Our mechanics probably MOT the things in that time.

We made to show at least 15mins other work or we in the office for a spanking. We clock in, get given the paperwork, walk to the lorry, check it over, which as they are double shifted, the last ■■■■■■■■ might left a defect or worse damaged the truck without reporting it so you get the blame, then of course get a cup of coffee before you set off.

All in all takes about 30 mins at start and about 15 mins at the end off shift. We paid off the card so if you didn’t do the manual entries you wouldn’t get paid.

If for some reason you came through the gate dead on 15hrs, you are told to stop pull your card and someone else will refuel and drop the trailer & do the checks for you! That’s what you get for working for a blue chip company

Friday evenings taking over the daytime tractor…

It’s odds-on that there will be at least one “Minor” issue that has not been dealt with properly by the previous driver, especially if they are full time rather than agency.
“LHS Rear Lamp Fault” or “Diesel at the top of the red” or “No Adblue”…

We mustn’t forget that walkaround checks should really be done on completion of duty as well as at the commencement of. :grimacing:

The walk round checks are just a waste of time if you have the same unit and trailer all week like I do. My morning checks consist of checking my dog clip to ensure no idiot has tampered with it in the night. quick boot of the tyres and I am away.
