Is it just up to the company you work for?

I’m about to return to HGV driving after a 4 - 5 year layoff.

I have worked for several companies both large and small and have chopped and changed my actions depending on the company rules of the time.

I understand that a digi card should be a full record of all work activity and as such (for a tramper) should be inserted at the start of the week and not ejected until the end of the week.
Some companies have insisted on taking it out every night and others (Stobarts) went from taking it out every night to leaving it in all week.

Just wondering whether current thinking had changed at all.
Thanks!

I take myne out every night after i have parked up and set it to rest, I then reinsert it at 07:30

+1 always took mine out no law says you cant.

Thanks guys - so still the same then

Leave it in ,less messing doing manual entrys, wont get lost or damaged

You are supposed to leave it in so it records all of your activity, including rest. However, if the company you work for think that you should take it out then it’s best that you do that.

Why would manual entries need doing when I eject card at the end of shift and insert it at the beginning when I’m away all week?
How will I lose or damage it by leaving it in the tacho head at the ejected position until I sit up in bed and put it back in?

Each to their own really ,it doesnt really matter.

I keep mine in my pocket, unless DVSA are in the vicinity…

If you leave your card in all night, it is a legal requirement to do a manual entry showing your start and finish locations.

Always left mine in when doing both euro and uk work only took it out to be downloaded or for a check. Never had to make a manual entry to show where started

1 of many reasons why the DCPC Exists.

If you do not select your start country, it is the same as putting in a paper chart without your start location on… ILLEGAL

Mine stays in all the time. Only ever removed for downloads and when I go on holiday. And yes, I do do the start and end country each day, well when I remember and certainly if different to previous entry. I just forget sometimes.

OK to be picky yes end the taco in the country you are in and do the same at the start of the next day but still stays in 24 hrs. Most of the police forces across Europe like to see the truck hasn’t moved overnight regardless of what the odometer says. That way it records your whole 24hr period

And of course no manual entry if doing uk only as that’s the default for a uk truck.
