Okay I’ll cut the long story short. I had my driving lesson today the first hour and a half was near enough flawless according to my driving instructor. But from the moment I got cut up entering a roundabout by some blonde bint in a silver people carrier going faster than she should have been (Like playing 'Now you see me…and now you don’t. Except the other way around, she was no where to be seen until I started to enter the roundabout ) the lesson went right down hill along with a ■■■■ load of confidence I had at the start of the lesson
Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them where they’ve had a really good day up until something like above happens and then things start to go downhill from there…and if there’s anyway to get out of losing the old confidence whilst driving etc…
Other than that incident and the last half an hour I was doing brilliantly Here’s hoping the 2nd of August brings me luck…
The first hour and a half went well. Good, because your test doesn’t last that long.
What happened broke your concentration - I know the feeling well, it happened on my test. These things happen, it is how you react to them that counts.
My advice is, stop for a minute or two and re-compose yourself then off you go as if the incident hadn’t happened.
Unfortunately this sort of thing will happen to you on an almost daily basis. It’s best to try and let it wash over you as you still have a job to do. As I am sure you have heard before, treat ALL other road users as complete tools until they prove otherwise, and expect them to do something ridiculous right in front of you at all times. Anything better is a bonus.
Smaller vehicle drivers, in the main, have absolutely no idea of what is required to drive a large vehicle or what sort of room they require. Get used to it.
You’ll probably find that the first 1 1/2 took 100% concentration so as the brain tires it all went ■■■■ up!
The good news is with practise it gets easier you’ll see problems arise and react almost without thinking about it.
Stay strong and you’ll get there.
Thanks for that folks, At least I know it isn’t something that no one else hasn’t done before I suppose. Although to be fair I wouldn’t say I concentrated that much in the first hour and a half, I was just as cool as a cucumber and was in a fairly good mood about my driving. I even thought at one point it was one of the best drives I’ve ever had…teaches me to think such stupid thoughts so early! I shouldn’t tempt fate like that
But I suppose I can’t be a professional just after 10 lessons (5 1 hour blocks 5 2 hour blocks) Just wish I could have one flawless lesson to say I’m picking things up really well! (It nearly was today though…until I started to think )

Learning to deal with ‘incidents’ like this and letting them wash over you comes with experience. Keep at it and don’t let the blondes get you down
These things are part of every day driving. As the above quote says let it wash over you. Just take a moment to relax and breath and then carry on, simples
I guess we’ve all had it happen at some point.
Just enjoy your time behind the wheel while your under instruction.
I have been in this situation a few times I find letting it go over your head let them make theyre mistakes stay calm and carry on like it never happened your supposed to be the professional driver when it comes to test just stay calm and just think of it as a normal lesson just going for a drive and you will sail through it.
if something happens again then use it to your advantage show the examiner or instructor you can deal with it without abusing them or swearing just show you can overcome it it will show you are capable of being a professional driver as is expected of you and all other hgv drivers in the country.
for all you know if it happens on test it may help the examiner see you can deal eith situations if it happens which as anyone here will tell you will happen in your career.
