Fair point Winseer. I’ve only been pulled once though in the last 15yrs…by VOSA that is!
AND…its a rum do when RDC chit chat is equated with a government approved instructor.
Who, by the way, is getting paid by the likes of me.
It is a fair point, trouble is the ones that believe all they are told by these morons are non the wiser, until mr vosa points out they’ve been breaking the law & flips them over.

This guy doing a DCPC course today said it’s changing where an instructor comes out for a full day, assesses you and gives a pass or a fail. No more 35hrs after September.
I’ve not heard this on here.Anyone heard owt?Something like that wouldn’t happen for a very simple reason, not everyone with a hgv or psv actually drives for a living… Some of us are just doing this dcpc rubbish so we don’t lose our vocational license entitlements.
How will you lose your entitlement to drive, you already have that. The dcpc is to allow you to use it to earn money. You will still be able to drive vehicles for non commercial purposes.
I was referring to the fact that most of us that don’t drive hgv’s and psv’s wouldn’t be in a position for an instructor to come out and assess us… …
True we can continue to drive trucks and/or coaches without the dcpc as you say for non commercial purposes, but not much use if you ever found yourself in a position you needed to drive again commercially, even for a solo one off event of one day even… Just another shallow excuse by some twonk in Brussels to extract money off ordinary working guys again…
Drivers cpc still won’t stop the idiots creating chaos on the roads…

I think you may have answered the question, why would they reduce the hours from 35 to 7? that is where everyone involved in the dcpc makes the money, unless they are going to charge something like £400 - 500 for the day. There would be no sense in it.
Would this new system apply to new entrants and if not would they carry on as before?
This is probably the normal rubbish that gets spread around.
I’m slightly embarrassed that I have…spread it around. But as I said, it must be reasonable to believe what a gov appointed and approved instructor says.
That we patently can’t believe what they say, what is the point of attending?

Name and shame the trainer, else it’s just looking like you’re making stuff up.
cheekymonkey:
He also informed us that we will be fined by VOSA for speeding beyond the set point of the truck. i.e. 57mph and by the filth do doing 60+.
I doubt this very much.
I’m also informed that to stop at the end of a shift and just go home is illegal. One must stop and show 15 minutes. I can understand the desirability of this, to show you’ve done some admin ect, but surely I can do it in the morning if I’d rather.
He was a really nice fella but I 've never been so bored. 7hrs of scaremongering. If I find he’s right then I will step up my efforts to pack this crazy lark in.
The really bad thing is that there are no doubt drivers out there who have been taken in and believe these absolute crocks of ■■■■. He seriously told you that you would get a fine for doing 57mph in a 60mph limit?!

By these standards, a ■■■■■■■■■■ 7 hours in an RDC waiting room should count towards our DCPC.
These trainers should be named and shamed. Then they will think twice about talkin a load of absolute pish!

Since when have DCPC trainers been Government appointed? Or even approved, for that matter (TTBOMK it’s only the training centre and the course content that has to be approved)?

It’s an odd system. When a course is sent for approval the training centre must list all the trainers who will deliver the course and include their ‘qualifications’ that justify why those trainers are suitable. JAUPT have been known to knock some back and not allow them - or ask for further documentation.
Once the course is approved the training centre can take on a new trainer WITHOUT having to then send their details to JAUPT. This is a farce. They must keep documents to show who delivered each course and if delivered by a trainer not previously approved they must keep evidence to show they were suitably ‘qualified’. If the course is then re-approved at the end of 12 months the training centre should include the details of those new trainers that have delivered the course since the last approval.
no what the prats are trying to say is that there is going to be more modules to choose from ,as i like so many drivers have sat the same module twice to make up the hours whats that about
ps , how many long term drivers have heard this in the class room, When i was in afghanistan

I heard that again this week. I almost went to tell him but decided against. They never really listen as no one wants to think they’ve been sold a lie and been daft enough to buy it.

Winseer:
Like some jobs, DCPC is just having your time wasted - except you pay them, rather than them pay you for the duration.Jury Service also has a lot of bull rumours going around about it. Self Employed people hate it with a passion, because they think they cannot claim for the amount of time they lose (and therefore don’t do their regular job, and get paid!) but like an MP, you can claim all kinds and any kind of out of pocket expenses… But no. These one-man-band folk insist on trying to “excuse themselves” and end up getting a heavy fine…
When I got called for Jury service, I put in a claim for all the wages and overtime I’d be losing, and they said “Fine - Just give us a letter from someone telling us exactly how much out of pocket you’ll be, and we’ll pay that.” I got £262 x 2 for the two weeks I couldn’t work nights, do overtime, get a shift allowance, driving money, or take a holiday.
Great thing was - That money is paid tax free, whereas those lost earnings would have been deducted… Therefore I’m effectively being paid MORE than usual for doing a “couple of weeks on days in a courtroom”. Fill your boots folks - don’t try and duck out of it!I would have thought that someone self-employed could get a letter from one of their regular clients, that might even have some extra losses on it (to claim for) that don’t even apply to PAYE bods like me…
Well when I was a self-employed mechanic I did it and couldn’t claim owt. The reason they hate it is not cos they think they can’t put their feet up in a courtroom without losing money it’s because a competitor is busy looking after your customers whilst you do it.
I think you’ve badly confused being a ‘self-employed’ (for tax purposes) agency driver with actually being self-employed.
Juddian:
Please say it wasn’t the trainer itself coming out with that crap.
I like the way you referred to ‘it’ like it’s some sort of robot gone wrong or something stuck on your shoe.
I was a self employed taxi operator, when I was called for jury service I tried to get out of it by claiming hardship. The authorities did not accept my claim so had to give my contract to a competitor for the day we agreed a price and I presented the court officer with the receipt and explained the situation.I was paid in full no problem.
I was told on the 3rd of this month, the last of my 35hrs of ■■■■■■■■ that the next time we will have to do a multiply choice paper and have to get I think 80% or more correct to gain a pass.
If this is correct then the trainer should teach that which is mandatory and not the Vosa boggy man crap they have pushed so far.
Start a you gov petition to only be taught that which is correct, and also that every license holder in Europe has to attend a course every five years to keep their license. This may improve the car drivers standards.
I did my first course today…can I join the club
The format is great the way it is as long as you know everyone on the course and “piddle” take all the way through and thoroughly enjoy the banter, and if some one does not get a subject everyone kicks in until we get it right then take the “piddle” some more
