IRON LADY

As for Thatcher she decimated British industry and our ability to provide for ourselves and our self sufficiency in fuel supplies like coal. When you’ve worked out who actually gained from that it might provide an insight into who’s interests she was actually working for.Certainly not Britain’s.
Quite agree about that Carryfast. I can remember back as far as you.I can remember everyone where I worked celebrating when Labour won the 1964 general election with a narrow majority of four seats, and Wilson became Prime Minister. During 1965, this was reduced to a single seat as a result of by-election defeats, but in May 1966 Wilson called another general election and this time won it by a 96-seat majority.

She actually implemented and finished what was started when we joined the EEC in that the trade balance was shifted more in favour of foreign industries to the detriment of our own eventually to the point where she implemented a policy of actually closing down those industries making ourselves even more,if not totally, reliant on imports of stuff that we could produce for ourselves.Which is why the economy is in the zb now because of the trade deficit that we’ve been carrying since the 1970’s.

Didn’t see any policies contained in Smith’s ideas that would have changed that situation just as was proved when Blair picked up where Smith left off.Thatcher,Smith, and Blair were all the same.Idiots the lot of em. :smiling_imp: :imp:

Don’t remember any calls to leave the EU and put up trade barriers to protect British industry from foreign competition by him either. It was all probably a case of game over when the miners got Heath out and then the unions and Wilson refused to listen to Shore from the beginning anyway. :frowning: :imp:

The interesting bit is this.^^

I don’t think it’s any co incidence that it was Thatcher’s government that was worried about the allegations contained in the book Spycatcher.Just as I don’t think that it’s any coincidence which countries seemed to have gained most from the EEC/EU and the ‘global free market economy’,as it applies to the closure of Britain’s coal industry and the flogging off of Britain’s oil and gas reserves and de industrialisation. :bulb:

By the way the Sino-Soviet ‘split’ didn’t seem to have made any difference to the Russian transfer of arms and technology to China at the time and to this day.In which case if they were really at war and hated each other that much why would Russia have wanted to continue to provide China with arms and technology  .

‘If’ the commie zb’s were intent on infiltrating the British government it seems to me that it would have been Wilson,Thatcher and Blair who would have been the most likely suspects who were in on it and to add to the ‘coincidences’ the States seemed to be all down hill since Thatcher’s mate Reagan joined her in throwing the US economy down the tubes of the ‘global free market economy’.

Oh I see, your all talking about Mrs Thatchedcottage. My god that woman was a hero.

I was in my pram about then Dave so I wouldn’t have cared much about it all  .But it was what happened during the 1970’s that really mattered in this case and by the time of the 1979 elections most Labour supporters like me at the time couldn’t really have cared less wether the Tories got in or not because we knew that the place was almost finished by then and it was every man for himself. It’s just that the boat is taking a bit longer to sink than we thought it would at the time. :open_mouth: :frowning: :imp:

My late Uncle who was in the RAF ground crew and went into some of the concentration camps at the end of WW2 said that about her and I agree. She wasn’t a murderer like Hitler, but she did untold damage to this Country which will all come out after my days.

Quite enjoyed the film although a few gripes - too retrospective in my opinion and bordering on taking the p155 out of her now she has Alzheimers.

For the record - have a look at how many pits were closed by the government prior to Thatcher and the Conservatives. I’ve seen first hand the number of ex-coal employees that are STILL sitting on their arses moaning about the Tories closing the pits. Funnily enough there are a few jobs around now, not that they’d notice.
