i know it would now be stobarts, but i always think of it as irlams, but whats that yard for, i always thought it was to do with pet food contract but another driver said asforby haulage and storage have that contract, irlams just used it as a stopping over post 
Your right Ady , it’s pet food , Ashfordby haulage , half of it burnt down last year , they are in the process of re-builing it now but don’t seem to be in any hurry
Its not all pet food,its anything that Mars makes(formally known as Masterfoods),chocolate,petfood,Mr Bens rice etc.
I used to take easter eggs in there when i worked for Fullers out of Birmingham.
Alas, Stobart have recently put all of the drivers & staff from the Melton depot on “30 days notice”, the demise of the old Irlam sites continues.
I’m based at Stoke (by J15 of the M6) and theres “an announcement” to be made this coming friday…
I honestly thought things would be better under E.S.L. compared to James Irlam, how wrong I was. 
I thought you’d be safe as you’ve had a new sign puton the fence by the M6!!
Dont worry,i dont think we have heard the last of these kind of announcements.

I thought the same when ESL took on The Innovate chilled side last year,was made redundant in Feb,after they closed the Worksop depot.
20 or so Stoke drivers are required to leave the old Irlam site in Stoke and work from the Tesco RDC @ Middlewich…
Strangely enough, they want the ones who goto Middlewich to sign the Stobart “Revised T &C’s” - No more “Operation Bonus” just Meal allowance…
Great! I have to now commute from Staffordshire into Cheshire before I start my driving stint…
On the plus side, at least in this current climate I am being offered a contract, shame its less per hr than I’m currently on…

Again, check if, under TUPE they can force this on you. Minimum 8 hrs too.

These Companies are using this so called recession to cut wages to the bone and increase profits, its sod all to with the recession, especially for the big boys like Stobarts, cos thay sure as hell are using thier clout to get contracts and force the small guys out as well, hence more people desperate to get work, so will take the pay cuts, extra travelling etc…
