Iranian lorry on M5

Luckily…

I like all of the food that was put out. The chutney pickle thingy was nice but so ■■■■■■■ hot!

If it had been sheeps brains and cojones (that’s the Spanish for them) I would have politely but firmly passed and just had coffee and cigarette or two. I did eat an entire meal of yucky things at my girlfriends parents house once. Every mouthful was awful but I didn’t want to look ungrateful, so I ate the lot but refused seconds when they were offered.

I do remember maikng a point of NOT shaking anyone’s hand though. How true the hand shaking hand rumour is I can only guess at.

My Iranain is as non-existant as their English but, we still managed a laugh or two.

Last time I was in campo having a 24 off there were 2 of them from Iran and how the trucks were staying together I don’t know…
i only noticed them because on the way in they were gesturing to buy some of my diesel (well not technically my diesel) [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
1 was a 113 scania and the other was an low cab fh.
They seem to have upgraded the countries fleet or at least the UK bound part of it obviously…

Very friendly bunch the Iranians by all accounts, there is a lad called Ed March who rode a Honda C90 from Malaysia back to the UK via Iran https://youtu.be/_2LEgowbzSc always greeted with a smile and generosity with everyone he met including the truck drivers.
Seems the Iranians gets very bad press because of the government.

Two Iranian drivers…

Asked me for directions to an industrial area in Rome. All of us were parked at a service area at the time. I drew a few maps for them and got them pretty close to where they wanted to be.

About ten minutes later, they knocked on my door and beckoned me around the side of their motor. There was a cloth on the floor with some cushions and a spread of food which included cold lamb cuts, a fiery pickle chutney thingy, pitta bread, some dates, hot coffee and Turkish cigarettes.

■■■■ nice people and generous to a fault.

But what if you’d been a vegetarian, wheat intolerant, non-smoking, non-caffeine drinker with a particular dislike of dates and pickle? What then? How would you explain that? Could they speak English?

I assume yourhavingalaf isn’t a millennial snowflake, therefore doesn’t feel he needs to have loads of special requirements, :open_mouth: and your post was very tongue in cheek, It’s amazing how easy and fun it is to communicate with people when you don’t speak the same language.
Many years back, I had a great few hours talking to a Glaswegian when we were loading a truck together, the only words I understood was Paul Gascoigne, so I assume we were talking about football, I also know nothing about football, but he seemed happy with the conversation.

You’re from Norfolk…he didn’t understand you either! :grimacing:

Something a bit different, was just approaching a truck on M5 and thought I don’t recognise those plates. Got close enough and it said Iran, with ADR signage as well.

Twenty or so years ago, I got to know two guys, originally from Teheran, who had a kebab shop just across from Central Station in Glasgow. They liked being in Scotland , but reckoned that on a day to day basis , Teheran was a lot less dangerous!!

Hi Nasser

Would be good if you could post on the Middle East Thread -

Lots of us old timers from the Middle East & Tehran run would love to hear what the route is like now

Be sure its actually him though…strange how he appeared in the thread the same day after the OP mentioned it, would an Iranian driver really be surfing trucknet the very same day and introduce himself?
This multiple account thing has made many people suspicious of ‘new’ members.

On April 1st…

Now, Now.
You, “nasser1352”, joined on 1st April 2018 and you made your first post that same morning.
I made no mention of same day in my post.
No need for further “red herrings” after the “jour de poisson”!

Left hand, certain culture’s, don’t shake hands because they wipe there bottom with it, and it’s classed as un-clean to shake another person’s hand as it might have there dirt on it
