iPad sat nav..

I’ve seen some guys in trucks using iPads as Sat Navs , I guess using google maps, my thought initially this would be illegal as it obscures some vision?

But then again the new Garmin Sat Navs are huge also…

Any one have any thoughts. ■■?

I have a 9 inch one, (oooeeerrr missus) and found that the bracket is not strong enough to support the weight of it, so I have it low enough to rest on top if the dashboard as well. I do find that it is a bit ■■■■■■■■■■ for size, however the larger screen makes it a bit easier to see.

My own thought is, anything bigger may attract the attention of the Vostapo.

Ken.

I certainly would not go out of my way to get one for use as a satnav.
However if I happened to already have one I would 100% use it over spending £400+ on a truck sat nav. They are just a waste of money.

Watch out for that bridge !
Some of us don’t go to the same supermarkets etc all the time

used an ipad mini for sat nav, co-pilot truck on it. nice big screen. Used it alongside google maps on satellite view, copilot for bridges and weight limits, google to get an idea of the terrain going into farms and building sites in the back of beyond.

Isn’t Co Pilot around £85 a year though for the full access package? Not sure if that includes speed cameras though.

If you know where to look, then iGO maps, like those used in the Stralis, can be got free of charge, and are updated around twice a year. It then pays you to subscribe to the up to date speed camera database from Pocket GPS World for £19.99 per year. (And is updated weekly.) Still cheaper than Co Pilot.

One must remember though, no system is fool proof, and you must still use your eyes and ears.

Ken.

9.99 a year for copilot, height, weight and traffic but no cameras though

Some of us can use our eyes all the time.

Honestly, I just use Google Maps only.
Yet to go wrong with it.

I can prob count on 1 hand in 5 years where I have had to take an alternative route due to Google maps trying to taking me through a width/height/weight restriction.
But I never just take the planned route google suggests, I add waypoints to say what roads I want to go down. I find that works out pretty well.
The supermarket I work for has like 500 different stores we actually cover. So, quite rare to get the same store. Basically our area is from Isle of White to Barton to Great Yarmouth, Dover etc and ofc all of London.
