Iowa 80 Trucking Museum, Walcott, Iowa

I was on my way across Interstate 80 and had a couple of hours to spare so popped into the Trucking Museum at the Iowa 80 Truckstop. Here are some photos of the old-timers on display. I hope you enjoy them.

It’s on Interstate 80; three hours west of Chicago at the little village of Walcott.

It is part of the World’s Biggest Truckstop [ 900 parking spots]

AC Mack. Examples of which are still in use on the island of Cuba.

B87, the most powerful of the B-Series Macks.

Solid tyred Packard with old snowmobile in the background.

This Mack had both, a flat-bed and a fifth-wheel.

There are more Macks on show than any other make.

Most of the trucks are restored to look as good as new.

Tough-looking Brockway.

White wrecker-recovery-crane truck.

Nice to see trucks with their trailers, but it did make the place seem rather crowded.

The little chain fences made it hard to get good photographs.

White Super Mustang, as used by the Nairn Brothers in the Middle-East during the Fifties.

Luxury all-enclosed cab for a tipper.

One of the few un-restored trucks.

Neat and tidy International.

Highway Hank’s old cab-over.

One-owner-five-million-miles and then donate the rig to the museum.

My favorite, 1954 Diamond T, great looking beast.

Mack B61 with integral sleeper, I’d go to work in that tomorrow even though it’s 55 years old.

I have always liked Saurer trucks; maybe it’s because they were made in the Swiss town called Arbon.

This Mack was once part of the recovery operation that works out of the Iowa 80 Truckstop.

Solid tyres on the rear and it wouldn’t need the axle-stand if it had them on the front.

A Fageol, only the second one I have ever seen. From the same factory that went on to produce the first Peterbilts.

The museum is open 9am. to 9pm. in the Summer. Free to get in. Also plenty of trucking goodies on sale in the Truckstop.
