But if a checkout operator is caught short, they ring a bell/put on light to be relieved - they’re not likey to pee in a bottle!
I thought they had to run out to the car park & then use a convenient wheel…
toby1234abc:
The boss may fit some, and not say which cabs will have them, the idea is to catch out drivers texting and smoking while driving.
Will they see you asleep in the privacy of the sleeper cab, somebody said, they will activate when there is movement of the vehicle, and not record the nocturnal activities, imagine if you pulled a bird for the night, would make a great movie for them to laugh over in the office.
Split curtains will be drawn over for me.
Can’t imagine you pulling a bird ( or any other creature ) any time soon.
toby1234abc:
‘…Inward facing cab cameras…’
They apparently (?) need the driver’s consent if the driver’s image features in the captured data - according to a bloke at my place who thinks he overheard that from an otherwise toothless union bod
Simon:
‘…I’ve always got a roll of gaffa tape in my tool kit. Saying no more…’
So I’ll suggest no-more that fifth wheel grease is more abundant, free, can’t be peeled-off easily & is surely a bugger to clean-off a micro lens
truckerjon:
Why ask the question on here? surely this is an infringement of your human rights, an invasion of privacy. Taxi drivers in oxford have refused to install cameras in thier cabs because of this reason.
Just say NO! It’s time to start playing the brinkmanship game with bosses, time to stand up and be counted. Don’t know how many drivers work for your company, but you ALL need to tell them to do one!
As said many times on here, it’s about time drivers grew some backbone and started saying NO to all these ridiculous rules and regulations, these spying games they play. Truth is it is just another way for bosses to shift the blame onto you for accidents etc.
Personaaly, If i knew there was a camera watching me, I would be as objectuionable as possible without doing anything illegal, for instance pick my nose constantly, scratch my balls, make out I’m constantly ■■■■■■■, where false thick lensed glasses and a moustache, wear a Tshirt only while I’m driving that says f*** You! on it, or maybe “what you looking at saddo?”
100% ^^^^This.
Keep calm and carry on,when in doubt have a brew.
Cameras facing in cab can be used while you are on duty the company has a right to protect it property ie the truck but once you are at rest on an overnight stop that is your time and would be classed as an invasion of your privacy and as long as you are not bringing the company in to dissrepute along with there name then then cannot have them on also they need your signature to say you are giving consent can only think of a reply with two words and the second one is off
And the tacho rules of drivers rest are that a driver is free to dispose of his/her time away from work.
Surely if it’s in the windscreen as most are, then simply closing the curtains will render it unable to record inside the cab.
*Disclaimer: dew and all related parties accept no responsibility if you crash the truck with the curtains closed. Only use this advice while parked.

a link to proof of this would be useful otherwise its just MMTM
Company we use said it was EU Regs and that the cameras they were fitting only activated with heavy breaking.
Can’t say I blame haulage firms with the number of drivers hitting things on the hard shoulder and parking them on their sides.
There are obviously some very good professional drivers around, but there also seem to be some real cowboys who are bringing the standard down.

Good I’m fed up with them interfering
i met an owner driver this week from the scottish borders who has built his own cctv system on his truck, he has 5 cameras ( the same is used for reversing cameras) one inward facing, one looking down each side and one looking out the rear, the truck ( daf ssc) has cctv stickers in the cab windows and rear and side walls of his trailer warning you are being recorded. the fifth is a roadhawk looking forward.
he says he hasnt had too use it in anger yet but he did say that police and vosa officers seem reluctent too audition when they see the stickers and the cameras above the door so he just tells them it’s switched off too keep them happy. he did show me some footage from it on his laptop and yes it was clear as day with no shake and when it stopped you can hear everything thats said clearly.
he says he went too this extreme after a mate of his got stung by a bogus insurance claim (he didnt go into details about it) and his insurance premium went up by a few thousand quid and forced him too sell up.
matthew clark have them on their vehicles, day cabs though, tbh it was said that they were bought in on request of the insurance company, due to amount of accidents, it did reduce the insurance costs however the footage from when the camera activated was used to dicipline either the driver or mate or both!! I even got called into tm for not wearing a seat belt whilst manouvering in a car park… I did,nt have a problem with the actual camera in the cab but had a problem with the way it was used so i voiced it and walked!! it got to a point where you were watching the camera rather than the road!! great way to improve saftey!!
Put one of these over the lense… …
truckerjon:
Dress like Mr D B gumby, knotted hanky on head, moustache, whits shirt, braces, trousers rolled up to your knees, and wellys on, look straight at the camera and say “HELLOOOOOO I’m an idiot!”
next day dress as Batman. Next day as Juan sheet, then in a giant ape costume, keep them guessing, all the time scratching yourself and acting like a total fool!
We already have a member who does exactly that.
As for tape, grease, etc. That would soon be stopped, co’s would simply make it a disciplinary offense to interfere with the camera.
There would most certainly have to be a sign telling you that you are on camera.
some question may be answered here, but more are raised!
The Data Protection Act and CCTV for commercial installations
Businesses, as well as public and commercial organisations do need to adhere to the Data Protection Act when installing CCTV systems. The regulations state that businesses installing CCTV should:
â– Let the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) know about the installation and provide them with the name of the person responsible for the system
â– Ensure that all CCTV cameras produce clear images
â– Ensure the public are aware that CCTV cameras are present — the easiest way to do this is to display clear signs, which should include the name and contact information of the organisation in charge of the CCTV system (where this information isn’t immediately obvious)
â– Not install cameras in changing rooms or toilets without very serious cause — if they choose to do this signs must make extra clear that CCTV is operating in these areas
â– Not record conversations between members of the public
â– Store footage securely and destroy it after the appropriate period of time
â– Not share CCTV footage with third party groups or organisations, unless as part of legal proceedings
â– Supply footage to those they have filmed upon their request within 40 calendar days of receiving the request and for a maximum charge of £10
â– Carry out regular checks to ensure the CCTV system is functioning properly
