I’ve recently bought a 600w convertor from car boot sales is basic ring off 12v cig lighter socket
It works runs a tv.
But is there a kettle I can get that will run off it?
Or maybe even a microwave?
No. Not man enough, unless you want a fire in the cab
smallest microwave I think is around 700 W . You will need at least twice or (for saftey) three times that in an inverter so 1400 - 2100 w inverter and you can’t run that from a cigarete lighter plug .
You’d probably be ok running a kettle off it, one of those cheap ones from tesco etc…
I doubt the wiring is rated for the kind of current you’d be pulling there. The fact a kettle only runs for a short time might mean you get away with overloading the circuit, if not then you “should” blow the fuse before you cause a more serious issue, but still I don’t think it can be recommended.

Definitely not. Most kettles start at 1200 watts. Even caravan ones are 700 watts plus
i stand corrected
Youll need a minimum 2000w inverter to run a 700w microwave. Dont even try with a domestic kettle. Get a low wattage one from Argos and you be fine.

Ah thanks for replies.
Bought it from car boot last weekend for a tenner.
As say it powers a telly.
I’ve manged 4 years without one. Just thought save me having boil a whistle kettle for my morning brew
Most cig lighters I’ve seen are 5 amp rated so that gives a max of 60 watts. Minus a bit for the inverter not being efficient.
In that case i would say 50 watts max and a lot less for anything like a kettle or microwave that will cause a surge.
If you swapped to a hella socket and its 12v (most seem to be 24v), then you could get 300w in theory but thats assuming the wiring into the box is actually rated properly. Still no good for a kettle unfortunately.
Personally I’d buy a new 24v one from a reputable site as there are a lot of cheap Chinese knockoffs which like to turn your cab into a bonfire.
