Inverters

Is there a difference between 24v to 240v and 12v to 240v.

Anyone got any reccomwndations or links would be appreciated.

Plan is to run tv with mobile Ariel. Maybe a small fan etc…

Yes. One needs a 24V supply, one needs a 12V supply. If you plug a 24V one into a 12V supply nothing will happen other than it won’t work but plug a 12V one into a 24V supply and you’re likely to blow it.

The 24V one will draw less current than the 12V one to provide the same wattage at 240V so it won’t need as thick cabling. Because of that you’ll find that the higher power ones are all 24V.

If all you are going to run is a small TV and aerial, then an inverter that plugs into a cigarette lighter socket will be fine. A small LED TV will use maybe 40 watts and a power aerial maybe 5 watts, so either a 12v or 24v inverter will be fine although a 24v inverter will draw less current. On the flip side, you could use a 12v inverter in your car if required. Because electical items momentarily use more current during start-up I’d suggest a 150 watt inverter.

Ahh okay! So I could get a small 200/300 watt inverter at 12v or 24v (24v sounds less fire hazardy). As long as I plug them into appropriate socket. My truck had 12v in the dash and 12 and 24 under the dash which is hella. There is also a socket up in the pod above the cab.

Yeah just probs tv and Ariel see how I get on. Would a PlayStation work on it too?

Once more thing would a double socket 300w inverter work to power tv and PlayStation? As it would have to share the power

No as I had same a 300w inverter powered a TV no problem.
One day thought take ps 2 to watch dvd play games and it blew the fuse

I’ll have to find out how much power the PS 4 draws

Why don’t you run the inverter through the anderson lead .

Anderson Lead?

TruckerRossy:
Anderson Lead?

Get a 12v portable TV, much less fuss than using inverters.

I wouldn’t trust a cigarette outlet for a power source just look how warm a kettle gets from
The cigarette outlet better going straight to the battery

If you and your boss are on good terms ask if he wil fit an Anderson lead either into the cab or into one of your side lockers (I an assuming your driving an artic ) from that you can buy and fit your own hi power inverter . For aprox £350 (I’ll include links later ) you will be able to run a microwave , kettle, toaster , tv /firestick , extra coolbox in the summer etc etc Advantages are you can plug it out and take it home when your on holidays . Its not about making you into a cab slave but you can save serious money making your own food , for example make your own coffe rather than go to Costa / Starbucks youll save a fortune .

I have this one for over 4 years now and hasn’t let me down . Forget sine wave inverters - you simply don’t need one for a kettle or a simple microwave
