Inverter question

Fitted a new inverter but doesn’t seem to be working correctly. When first switched on,the power-on light comes on bright but then goes dim. Can’t hear the fans running.
There is an earth terminal on the front, but no mention is made of it in the instructions. My question is does it have to be earthed? Many thanks in advance.

You should have a live then your earth best to bolt it on to something like the gearbox. Where have you took you live from?

It’s on a 2017 Actros. We have an Anderson connecter fitted behind the cab to power tail lifts. It’s wired into a box mounted on the nearside which contains fusible links. I used this to power it. The earth does go onto the chassis. The earth I’m on about is on the front of the inverter, just a M6 stud,so would only be a relatively thin gauge wire.
Just seems strange that the instructions don’t make any mention of it.

yes it will have to be earthed ,either you run your earth with heavy Anderson lead cable back to your anderson lead so it in turn is earthed through the chassis or you use you 6 mm earth cable supplied and earth it to the cab , normally i remove a seat bolt fit ring on earth cable and tighten it down on seat bolt

lots of talk about earth here…

the wingnut on the back is for the earth. in theory every time you use it you should drive a ground rod and run a earth wire to that terminal. no body bothers.

the anderson has positive and neutral, not earth, so that is fine. those are the only connections you need for it to function.

with reference to you not hearing the fans, on most they only come on when needed. Switch mine on, no fans… put kettle on and they instantly start up

Fire the engine up and try it. The lights on mine (plugged into Anderson lead) stay dim unless the engine is running.

the small extra earth dont need to be connected unless your fussy.
ive fitted numerous ones over the years to 12 and 24v vehicles.
itl make no difference to the operation though d be running the engine when im using the microwave.

Thanks for the responses boys. It seems like it may be the Anderson lead that’s faulty. I just tried using jump leads from the terminals on the side of the box containing the fusible links direct to the terminals on the inverter and it worked for a while before showing a fault. Only cheap leads,so not very good croc clips so possibly not providing enough power. Will try a new lead tomorrow.
