Introduction part 3

Last leg, my days at B E T Zeebrugge consisted of carpet deliveries from Belgium to U/K sometimes 3 times weekly for the duty free it was great but you were more of a seaman than driver ha ha .i finished up with 3 units on this job but the rates were just enough to keep going. After about 3 years it became clear we were coming to a crossroads workwise, so i gave up and went driving for them on drawbars running U/K to belgium …holland, germany, france…,this was carrying U/K goods out and re–loading to belgium//U/K. Then started doing Belgium to Italy- Sardinia- Czechoslovakia and Poland with a mixture of cargoes including carpets.Re–loads from Italy were sometimes for U/K so i did get home sometimes even if only for a day From czech re–loads were from Vlasim to Buxton very nice, but problem was it was live shotgun shells very very hazardous as you can expect.- i made some very good friends on carmans and B E T Zeebrugge and was with them for 14 years until my wife was taken ill 1998 and i had to pack up. I did go back driving long distance milk tanks for Weavers of Endon until the docs stopped me working June 2008.Anyway i am hoping to organise a re-union in Zeebrugge later on this year. So i will give plenty of notice. There are firms i have not mentioned on here including Shelton transport who were based in Cheddleton, M F S of Stoke , Romac of Crayford,Beresfords of Cheddleton, and quite a few more, and i will be only too pleased to give any info i have on them…searching for pics and will post as soon as i find them & learn how to,do it anyway thats the end of the life story, If anyone wants to contact me or would like further information about any of the journeys please contact me,thank you and sorry about the length of this article, kEEP ON TRUCKING,
