As above ive got an interview next week for my first driving gig at a skip firm in Leeds, just wondering if anyone had any tips, also i very much doubt my digi card will have come through next week so if there should be an assessment drive what should I do about that?
Sounds like basic stuff i should know but you never know unless you ask etc!
Cheers
Jonny
Hi Johnny, are you still at McDowalls, and how is it going? Not being nosey, just interested.
Sorry can not help with skips, one job I never did.
Regards John.
Skips are pretty much easy, local work, hours are pretty much 7-4 give or take, if pay is decent then itās a steady number, wonāt make you a millionaire but itās a good start. Good luck.
Hello john,
I never had an interview etc with mcdowells, they more or less told me they didnāt want to know until my cpc card came back once my mod 4 was passed as the certificate wasnāt enough for them which is fair enough, so Iāve just kept my ear to the ground looking where possible to find work holding out for a job either tramping or on tippers, this job being a mixture (i think!) of skips and tippers which is close enough! So have my Mod 4 tomorrow as well as an assessment drive, once passed im ready to go!
Still questioning if this is real yet
Cheers
Jonny
Nothing to worry about ,a walk around check of the truck before setting off.Maybe a basic quiz on tacho rules. They will show you how they want it done.
Some decent work boots to stop nails going through the feet. You do not want to end up like Jesus on the cross.
Take your time on the assesment drive.Relax.
good luck mateā¦if anyone deserves it, itās you!
Cheers toby, have got all the work gear sorted regarding the ppe and all that, somewhat nervous but excited if there is a driving assessment as Iām not 100% sure what their fleet consists of. (Not that it matters but an idea of the truck id be driving would help!)
&& thanks Gas much appreciated.
Cheers

Did you follow that up i told you about johnny
I currently do builders merchants work and the skip firms usually beat me to the customers address as i have to lift everything over them. you will be challenged with some very tight back street driveways and watch out for the builders using greedy boards to over load them, you will end up throwing things out to level it. Also make sure they supply you with nylon pads for the landing legs at the back, Iāve seen a few āLSSā lads punch holes in the pavement trying to lift a skip of wet clay obviously overloaded.
As with everything itās a learning curve, good luck.

Iām afraid thereās probably nothing you can do Iām afraid, if you donāt get your card in time I would phone the company and let them know in advance, they might let you do a driver assessment later pending a successful interview.
Good luck
I did follow the lead up Seth but sadly didnāt lead anywhere
Cheers for the advice roadrunner, ill keep in mind to look for overloaded skips & to use the pads for the legs at the back of the wagon little things like that you wouldnāt think of normally! Much appreciated
Thanks for the info tachograph, I was going to give the bloke a ring tomorrow so Iāll make sure i mention it etc as I could be lucky if he has any older lorrys with the analogue tacho fitted but will see.
Cheers
Jonny
Best of luck for your interview next week Jonny, hope it all works out for you.
I canāt be of any help in tips for skip wagons as itās something Iāve never done, but just take your time in everything you do and youāll be fine
Goodluck
