Interview for first Class 2 job

Hello guys,

I passed my Class 2 in February, but have had no luck in finding employment as of yet. Anyways I’ve received a phone call about an interview tomorrow for a drinks delivery company in Houghton le Spring.

Any tips for said interview? as I’m new to this type of work and it really will be appreciated.

Cheers

Just be yourself. If you have an assessment drive then do all the checks ECT… and if you need help ask for it. Never be afraid to show initiative or asking for help.

Thanks.

I’m going to brush up on vehicle checks and tachograph stuff etc, to give me a refresh for tomorrow. Learn about the company also (I know in general what they do).

Hope it’s a start to a career on the roads as eventually I’m hoping to go onto Class 1 entitlement.

When I take someone on, besides them having a license and knowing the law, I want someone that looks clean and tidy and as if they were someone that I could work with. Most interviewers know the applicant is going to be nervous, so don’t worry about being nervous, just try not to let nerves ruin an assessment drive!

Good luck.

I’ve been on a few assesment drives and interviews since passing.
In general the interviews arnt such a grilling about your competencies as other industries.
Interviews I’ve had have been on the brief side, a couple standard interview questions that the interviewer didn’t seem overly interested in, then a bit of getting to know one you and your assesment drive.

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve never understood how a grown man/woman talking to another grown man/woman can be nervous…sure when you a 16/17 year old kid in a job interview I’d understand nervousness(is that a word?!), but certainly not as an adult, the interviewer is just a person.

Some people wouldn’t understand how someone wouldn’t be nervous. People are simply different from each other.

Nerves depend to some extent on how much you want/need or how good the job is you’re going for.

Where i am now was dead mans shoes at the time, i happened to make a reasonable impression when i cold called which led to invitation, but was really nervous about the actual interview, however the Ops Mgr who interviewed me was fine, as it turned out my CV had more or less opened the door, interviews not normally a problem for me but i really wanted this job.
Nerves can affect anyone at anytime.

Be polite but not ingratiating, be normal friendly, they’ll be looking see how you would approach a customers of theirs, attitude employment attendance sickness history etc.

The assessor will be the one who decides if your driving is up to scratch seeing as you no driving history, again be yourself don’t rush, he wants you to pass and you aint on test so forget all that bloody head swivelling like in The Exorcist for no good reason, ask assessors advice what they want to see.

Cheers for the info guys.

The interview was brief, roughly ten mins which left me thinking I’d not getting the job. Got a phone call an hour later asking if I’ll start tomorrow. Finally, my first driving job!

Well done! all the best tomorrow

If it who I think you’ll be driving for, you’ll be reversing the wrong way down one way streets etc to gain access to drop points… :smiling_imp:

A company that comes from that neck of the woods, delivers to next to where we deliver to. And they have to do just that…

A well done from me too though… :sunglasses:

Congrats mate, all the best with the new job :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
