Interview Dress Code

Hi All

Got a couple of job interviews nest week, whats the dress code these days in the truck industry, suits or smart casuals■■?

id say smart casual dark jeans nice clean crisp short sleeved shirt and smart looking shoes…my last 2 interviews at langdons and stobarts what i had on …stobarts wrote down when i had interview i had smart clean appearence so it does work and i got both jobs lol
smart casual all the way
and by the way good luck m8

personally i would wear a suit/ shirt, tie and trousers but carry a pair of overalls just in case you need to do anything.

i know it might seem a bit over the top but nine times out of ten an employee has decided in the first 5 minutes of meeting you if they like you or not and looking smart is half the battle.

of course this is my personal view and others may say the opposite but if someone turned up in tatty jeans and a manky old t-shirt you would wonder what state thier wagon, for company image, would be like after a week or so?

good luck with the interviews anyway mate

I’d always go for a driver job in smart but casual wear, clean well pressed shirt, clean jeans or trousers ec’t.

sounds good - make an effort and look clean and tidy, but try to look like a truck driver rather than a bank manager

Bib and brace.
Flat cap.
Rough, leather like hands. nicotine stained of course.
Half an unlit roleup hanging from your bottom lip.

Now you look like you can rope and sheet.

plus a bag containing.
Blown fuse.
length of wire.
2 x magnets.
dead blokes digi card.

This will show that your prepared for anything.

In this age of equal equality, I wonder what would happen if a guy went to such an interview in smart womens attire - don’t think I’m brave enough to try it - anyone willing to give it a go

I think I’d go as far as me kilt…

First impressions count. Dress as you would for a decent night out; I wouldn’t consider collar and tie to be necessary these days, but clean and tidy is the main thing.

Another thing, and this might sound patronising or even plain daft to some people; make sure you smell right! The interview will take place in a small office more than likely, and too much Old Spice or whatever can be as bad as sweaty armpits! No garlic the night before either, that’s equally off-putting to an interviewer.

If you’re actually going to the yard, or think you may be asked to do a driving assessment, take a hi-viz and safety boots.

Finally, TAKE BOTH PARTS OF YOUR DRIVING LICENCE!!!. You’d be surprised how many forget, and it’s a black mark against you to start with.

I would say as long as its smart go in what makes YOU feel comfatable, I used to go in a suit with shirt and tie, but the job i have now, I went in the suit ect but felt very uncomfatable due to the guy who owns the buisness and the 2ic being in jeans and a t shirt, made me feel overdressed and they made the point of asking wether I like getting me hands dirty?? which i don,t it was just that i wanted to make a good impression, but it just knocked my confidence straight away, however I did get the job but i think it was more by luck then anything else.

Brilliant.

A mate of mine went for a class 1 job in a suit and he got it, but that then became his nickname: “SUIT!”

I think the right approach is smart but casual, with steelies & a hi-viz at hand.

In the past I have worn a decent pair of pants, and steel toe-capped shoes that look like ordinary shoes and I’ve carried my hi-viz to the interview with me. Then they know you’re ready for a tour of the warehouse and a driving assessment if you need one.
