Hi I not long passed my class 1 and I’m going for an interview at maritime Southampton. They have this mentor scheme where they train to for a year. Has anyone else gone through this scheme and what is the work like.
Hope you get it, guessing it will be boxes. My question with schemes like this is always what the heck takes a year to learn in Hgvs…or is it there way of keeping you on a lower wage?
I was wondering the same. A year seems a long time.
Pete
They said I would still be on the same wage as other drivers. Maybe I got it wrong a year does seem a long time. But its just to show me the ropes I think. Never done container work before.
You don’t use ropes on the boxes, that’s for flatbeds …

That’s why it takes a year lol
Maritime PDS puts you on same wage as other drivers. You’re given support and guidance for a year, but actual mentoring with another driver is around 6 weeks.
