International CPC

I’m going to need my International CPC shortly, and will be grateful for some guidance, previously took my nat cpc in June 1996, Chemfrieght Runcorn.

  1. I will now need to sit the full new Nat/Int exam
  2. Is the course duration 10 days?
  3. Living in North Wales, where would be a suitable centre to sit the course.
  4. I will be paying for the course myself, can I get any assistance witht the costs?

Any info/advicve will be appreciated.

Enforcer.

A search on the forum shall head you great wealth of knowledge :bulb:

Hi Enforcer,

Enforcer:

  1. I will now need to sit the full new Nat/Int exam

Correct.

There is no set duration for the course, and providers can timetable it in any way they wish, so it might be an idea to discuss this with the provider once you’ve made your choice.

If you were happy with Chemfreight last time, then maybe it’s an idea to go with a known quantity. IIRC, they still do CPC.
I heard that Kelsterton College were getting a logistics Dept up and running, but I don’t know whether it all worked out for them.
As an alternative, Handbridge College were teaching CPC at one stage, but I’m not sure whether they still do.

Possibly, but funding options are different in Wales, so I can’t help you with that apart from suggesting that you ask any college/jobcenter in your area, cos they’ll probably know about Welsh funding arrangements even if they don’t know offer CPC.

I hope that helps.

Hi Enforcer,

Enforcer:

Correct.

As far as I’m aware, the holder of a National CPC still has another three chances to sit the international module, in June, September and December 2012, only after December 2012 will he need to sit the combined exam.

Unfortunately, Harry, Dave is correct.

From the OCR website:

" Upgrading
Updating from pre-October 1999 National to International certificates
Candidates who achieved their National Certificate prior to October 1999 can no longer upgrade to an International Certificate simply by sitting Module 6 or 7 alone. This means that candidates who wish to obtain and International CPC from September 2004 must take the full international examinations.
This decision was made a number for years ago, when the format of the qualification significantly changed to include case study papers. The decision to make this change was taken by the Transport Qualification Committee, made up, in part by representatives from industry and professional bodies including the Road Haulage Association and the Department of transport "

As the OP gained his CPC pre 1999, he will have to resit the entire qualification if he needs an International CPC. :frowning:

Ah ok, thanks for that, I hadn’t realised there was a difference for pre-1999 CPC holders.

Hi Harry,

The pre 1999 CPC certificates were issued when RSA was the awarding/examining body for CPC.

Sometime after 1999, there were mergers/takeovers between awarding/examining bodies, then OCR was born.

After a certain date (can’t remember,  ) an RSA National CPC ceased to be recognised by OCR as the basis for upgrading to International.

Of course, an RSA National still counts as a National CPC, but I’m afraid that the OP is stuffed. :frowning:

Both of my CPCs are from RSA, which means that I’ve got both and they’re still valid and perfectly useable either on their own or as a pair, it’s just that they’re not from OCR.
