Hello, I have recently passed my Class 1 HGV.
I have a CPC in National Freight.
I am considering driving UK and Abroad, would a CPC in International Freight
be worth doing for this ?
thanks
Colin

Hi bowler, I’d point out neither National, nor International CPCs are requirements for a driver.
If you’re an O/D, it might be a requirement, but you’d possibly have to consider changing the type of “O” licence that you have too.
I do hope you weren’t one of those caught out by a glib sales pitch by “certain” training companies…
Of course, there’s no problem adding the Int. to the Nat. that you already have.
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE TEST PASS
Hello Dave,
Thanks for the advice.
I fortunately wasn’t caught out to do the National CPC.
I worked for a Removal Company who upgraded from 3.5t to 7.5t and needed a CPC holder. I did a 6 day course with Hargreaves Training.
It did take me 3 goes to pass the case study though, but wasn’t going to give up.
I then decided to do my Class2 (Passed DEC 2006) 2nd Attepmt
Then my Class 1 (Passed DEC 2007) 2nd Attempt
I think I will go for the CPC International this year.
I am hoping that I could possibly get some work running from Mancester area to Southern Ireland perhaps as an owner driver.
Would the International CPC be required if I wanted to do this ?
To run in S.Ireland you would need Int CPC and Int O License but you do not need CMR’s
Have you considered the not inconsiderable costs involved in setting up on your own and obtaining and O license?
You’ll find many threads under the Owner Drivers section here discussing start up costs.
