Internal straps!

Why have three of my internal straps ended up like this? ■■
They seemed to have unhooked from the underside of the trailer!
I’ve used them before and never seen this.

Bounce from the roof causing them to become loose

Yep, roof flexing has rendered them useless. Is it a pillarless trailer by any chance? I’m not a fan of internal straps, although I concede ratchets aren’t always practical

Pillarless trailers are a pain in the arse.

If your straps are at the edge of the roof, cross them. Use the nearside to strap the offside and vise versa. If they are in the centre, use a stanley knife

I get this with Schmitz trailers with pillars too

Seriously? Our Montracons & Cartrights have angled runners. If you cross them on the trailer you either bend the strap wheels or worse pull thwm right out of the runners.

As Elmer J Fudd would say…

Your wobbling woof has woosened the watchet stwaps.

^This. Internal straps fastened straight down on a pillarless trailer, or any trailer with a roof that wobbles are neither use nor ornament. Try getting in the back after your have fully tightened your curtain straps and you’ll see how they have gone slack. It can still happen even when you have criss crossed them, but you have a better chance of them actually offering some restraint.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but are they 1000kg bulk bags? and you are supporting them with internals rated at no more than 250kg?

DVSA would have a field day with that one.

Had to laugh at that one.

Never noticed this with the internals on our pillarless cartwrights but the curtain buckles have a habit of coming loose when empty, I find tucking them in helps.

Mind you most of our internals look like a robot dog has used them as a chew toy so half the time you can’t use them anyway.
