Hi,
Stupid question but I’m still fairly new to trucking. I’m looking to upgrade my interior “map reading” lights which are P21w bulbs. Will 12v LED ones be suitable and work? Thanks, it’s a DAF LF 280 2022.

Simple answer no. You can put a 24v bulb into a 12v system and just end up with a dull light.
If you put a 12v bulb into a 24v system it will indeed be incredibly bright, but unfortunately only for a nanosecond before it blows ![]()
As far as I can see most P21w LEDs are 12-24 watts so should be OK.
You will need to get the right kind of led though other wise you may get dash warnings from the automatic light check system (assuming your vehicle has an automatic light check system).
Having said that, other people may be able to give more precise advise so wait to see if you get better replies ![]()
No, you should leave well alone and ask for attention by the dealer at the next service. LEDs are voltage and often polarity sensitive. IIRC DAF use incandescent bulbs for the interior lights, a higher wattage bulb will mean increased heat transfer to the light fitting and the surrounding trim which could have serious results, for which you will be held responsible if you meddle. Fitting an LED in place of an incandescent bulb could potentially trigger a problem with the body control module.
Prob best get a led light strip that plugs into cigarette lighter
Yes. Tangs favourite. And get some red poppy light air fresheners.
