It was for me as an ex driver who has never experienced mirror cams. The elimination of blind spots increases?
What’s the downside?

I think he reversed better than me [emoji23]

?What’s the downside?
2 potential ones.
1.Reversing, at night especially, it’s like watching something on TV rather than the real life of a mirror, so it seems to lose some detail. (I must admit to only recently learning how to switch off that wide angle view, so that you can see less but in greater detail). Also, you’ve got that flashing blue line marking the back of the trailer right exactly where you’re trying to look! [emoji1787]
2. Rain on the camera, it’s either much better than a mirror because you get hardly any rainspots or dirt on the camera, but when you do, then you can lose the whole view.
Less than two points of articulation is boring also arguably obsolete if the industry is to have a future.

Reversing a 40 tonne truck, is it plated for 40 tonne on three axles or is someone guessing, I smell msm ■■■■■■■■.

Yeah I kinda get what you are saying. Although not quite the same I find the reversing camera on my car a little off putting at times. Probably really helpful to some but I still prefer to use my mirrors if you know what I mean.
I think it would be awkward for me, I need reading glasses when I am on a computer or tablet, so maybe I would not have a sharp image on the screen without them but I don’t need glasses for driving, so a normal mirror gives me a better perspective. But I have never tried so I don’t know.
I do think that these cameras for reversing would be a good EXTRA addition alongside mirrors though.

It looked like 6 axels to me?
It was stated that the trailer was loaded with water to 40T GTW

Yes that’s a problem for me too, I have a reading prescription and a distance prescription - haven’t got a third pair of glasses to look at the screens [emoji23]

You can order distance and mid range bifocals.Even the close bifocals seem to work ok to a reasonable distance.
But the problem is more that it’s a 2d camera system and image v the 3d of proper mirrors.

Mmmm, mirrors can only provide 2D image, they may be more familiar to look at, but that’s no different to a camera screen.
thing that occurs to me is the increasing complexity (and cost) of the vehicles. in the past I’ve seen perfectly good cars with sound bodies, engines and boxes scrapped for the want of some little electronic modules. Could we see similar with trucks in the not too distant future? It seems to me that cameras instead of mirrors is a solution looking for a problem. Yes, everything looks fantastic and great when nice and shiny new, but how will they fare when they’ve been thrashed around the block for a good number of years by some largely indifferent drivers. How easy will it be to sort those niggling little glitches that develop in electronics, or will they just be left for the driver to live with because nobody in the workshop has a clue whats wrong and the main dealers want an absolute fortune just to plug a laptop in.
Also, the guy in charge of the merc may be a sound enough bloke, but he looks like a heart attack looking for a place to happen. Hardly a good image for the industry, is it?
And 7.5 tonners with a 60 mile range? Let me know how that works out!

.
A mirror image is a direct reflection which our binocular vision processes into the equivalent 3d image.
Unlike a 2d camera system.Which is why distance information requires a 3d camera system using binocular cameras and it’s also why images in a convex mirror look further away than in a flat glass mirror.IE a mirror image contains distance information a 2d camera doesn’t and therefore 2d cameras should be banned for automotive vision use.
