Interesting Junctions

After reading thread “Game of chicken between cars and 44T”, This junction came to mind

M25 Anti clock/M3. vehicles always using M3 off slip to try to beat queue for M25.

Any others?

M60 clockwise j 7 road runs parallel.to motorway and rejoins it
Can be a useful shortcut.
Always see cars going up and over at Junction 9 during rush hour.
Don’t know why as they have go down round a roundabout with traffic lights then back up.
And. They rejoin the que roughly the same.place r maybe one car in front.
And am sure this contributes to delays on the m60.
Cars going down and back up resulting in traffic on motorway slowing down to let them rejoin

what they need to change there is turn the hard shoulder into a running lane so that it stays 4 lanes instead of reducing to 3.

Identical is J14 clockwise, use the M4 slip to beat the queue on the M25. It’s usually worth coming off at J13 for double bonus even if you’re staying on the M25.

Seen this so many times - I tend to use lane one to avoid the morons sitting stationary in lane two trying to join lane three.

M3 s/b at M25….coming our of London after getting under the junction it’s possible to be sat in the outside lane for a bit when through the other side if it’s a bit busy and nobody fancies letting u in

M27/M3 eb junction if you come out of Rownhams services and want to go up the M27 it’s fun getting in to lane 3 as people think you’ve left your indicator on , not that you want to co e right over

Almondsbury Interchange…

or how to turn the beautiful high speed, free flowing 4 stack interchange into a russian roulette dog dinner.

Joining the M5 at Junction 16, N/B with the intention of traveling N/B towards Gloucester/Midlands.
Your on sliproad turns immediatly into the slip road to join the M4 Westbound :open_mouth:.
To your right is a lane which carries both traffic wanting to also join the Westbound M4, and the Eastbound M4 :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
The lane you need, is the outside, or third lane
Depending on the time of day, there are two options.

Outside the rush hour, traffic in lane two (N/B going for the W/B M4) is approaching at 60+mph, and switching lane into what was your on sliproad and is now their “off slip”, whilstsome traffic in lane three is following them into lane two also for the W/B M4, whilst some are folowing lane two, which splits off to the right into lane one of the E/B M4 slip, to join the E/B M4. The outside lane is tranquil, because it only gets a few drivers who came up the N/B M5 to carry on N/B, but missed the split where the N/B M5 carries on N/B via lane two and three… :grimacing:
You need to cross two lanes of fast, lane switching traffic, to get to Lane three, to get onto the N/B M5 :open_mouth: You are doing this, whilst still trying to build up speed, and unable to see the approaching traffic untill they speed past you… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
Oh, you have about 460 yards to do this :grimacing:

During rushhour, all lanes are gridlocked…

M4 W/B to M5 S/B meeting the M4 E/B to M5 S/B is another beauty. It’s much improved by the addition of the junction 16 S/B off sliproad…

Why wouldn’t you turn it off after each lane change if there’s any doubt?

As a northerner I am blissfully unfamiliar with the M25 these days, but if I’m understanding correctly what you are describing, I think we have something similar:

A1(M) northbound at Birtley/Washington services in the morning rush hour, vehicles using the hard shoulder to undercut crawling traffic, then turning into the services, using the services “rat run” parrallel to the A1(M), then rejoining the main carriageway as if exiting from the services. Can be the best part of 400m all told.

To be honest that uphill drag is long enough before the split to be able to turn them off, pause, and indicate again.

M25 getting onto M4 people use the terminal 5 exit to skip the queue on the M25 then play wacky races when trying to rejoin the M25 last minute. Even see a few trucks playing it too and they are meant to be “professional” drivers
