Insurers after an accident

Hi folks

Not sure where this topic belongs but perhaps those of you unfortunate to be involved in a traffic accident can help me. A year ago I was involved in an accident with a motorcycle this wasn’t driving for work. We exchanged details etc etc and to cut a long story short my car was a write off and not worth claiming off the excess.

I have now been contacted by an agent on behalf of my insurers who wants to meet and take a statement from me. I asked what was the reason and he told me I never supplied my insurers with a statement after the accident which is baloney I rang them up the very next day and told them the details etc.

Anyone ever had this experience or know what they are up too? I can’t figure out why after a whole year they have only now contacted me about this.
Many thanks if you can help.

If you were paid out I wouldn’t worry too much.

They may be looking for more info as one party may still be trying to claim injury and insurance companies are now headed to court (business only, don’t let it bother you).

Find out the agents details, speak with your insurer and confirm they are acting for them incase it is one of these fake accident firms.

If i’m reading you correctly, you rang them up and you notified them (your insurers) but you have not filled in an accident form, signed it etc ? Probably because as you say it wasn’t worth you making a claim ?

You should contact them yourself to confirm just exactly who the agent is, there is a slim chance he could be working for the party making a claim against you.

As for why they’re bothering now, i’d assume someone has just claimed against your policy.

I’d be digging for info to make sure they are a genuine agent for your insurer.

Have you contacted then directly to confirm this as it does sound a touch odd.

I’ve worked in insurance for years and I do know that the insurer won’t be spending money sending an agent out a year after a matter has essentially closed.

So, either they’re not really an agent of your insurer or something has caused then to look at the matter again which is causing them to think that the claim may reopen.

Just a note also, are you or were you with Aviva? They had a load of policy holder details nicked and there’s been a fair few scams off the back of the data.

Unless the insurance company contact you by mail, it’s a scam.

As long as people keep falling for these scams, we will continue to be inundated with calls about ‘the accident you had in the last three years…’

I respond by asking the caller ‘which one?’…

only time i have had an agent contact me re a claim was twelve months after i tapped some bints BMW up the back in Dudley barley even a scuff on her back bumper but sensibly took pics on my phone whilst exchanging details after supplying company with details on return to yard thought that was the last of it . twelve months on got a phone call asking could an agent visit for an interview. duly obliged where upon it became apparent there was something fishy going on as the Bints Beemer now looked like it had been hit by a 44tonner on the limiter plus it had gained four passengers ! the agent was overjoyed when i showed him the phone pics from the scene
Bints claim consequently thrown out and prosecution pending

^^^^ good on you! They should jail her and make a big thing of it in the press. Might just change the attitudes of some of these chancers.

Okay some news on the issue sorry for late reply but I been tramping for 2 days

The agent does work for my old insurers he was adamant that I sit down with him and go through the accident etc. Dan I am not with Aviva with KG motor insurance. After reading up the tinterweb the other party has opened up a claim so there are 2 agents or “insurance adjusters” as they are known. As far as I am aware I am obliged to help my insurers agent but strongly advised to not say anything to the other party’s agent.

I’m in 2 minds about helping them they did nothing for me when I first reported the claim but if they don’t get my statement(again) I think I might be liable to defend myself in court if it went that far. Not sure how the motorcyclist can claim as he admitted liability and I have 5 eyewitnesses backing me up. Will update once I know more in case it will help anyone who finds themselves in this position in the future.
