So as im now looking at being absolutely stung by insurance when its up for renewal I was hoping someone could answer a couple of queries I have.
1- does the price of my renewal depend on the number of claims I have had on the policy or is it governed by the total amount the insurers have had to pay out to cover these claims??
2 - as I have 100% no claims on my truck how much will the 3 claims of my (former) employee affect my insurance. The insurers obviously need to recoup the money they’ve paid out but as I will now only be insuring one truck will it affect my no claims? Im absolutely dreading how much my renewal is gonna be!!
Matt.
Unfortunately, you will lose your no claims bonus, and you will be loaded because of the claims but my guess is that it won’t be as much as you think, I had an “at-fault” accident last year which was reserved at £2,200 and it put my premium up by £300.

So even though I wasnt at fault for any of them ill still lose them? When I bought the Daf I transferred the no claims bonus onto that thus leaving the MAN with no no claims attached. I thought this may protect me as the driver as I understood the no claims was attached to a vehicle, not to the policy as a whole? I reckon these episodes will cost around 20k to the insurers.
Matt
You could be right, probably best to have a word with your broker and see what they have to say.
are both vehicles on the same policy?
the risk is what they have paid out, not so much the number of claims
in your favour, you have got rid of the driver who has had all the claims, it will still affect your premium, but, not as much as if you still had the driver

My truck(s) are insured individually by registration number so I have separate, individual no claims for each vehicle even if I run more than one. So mine has x years on then if I get another truck, he has none, separate entity. All any driver over 25, even mine
If the new one gets goosed as in your case, no harm although they do hold a grudge and take it in to general consideration.
Fleet policies of over 5 trucks would be different as you don’t insure each motor individually.
So in that regard if you are insured like me, their should be a silver lining, just make sure your broker pleads your case to the big noise with all the facts BEFORE renewal time.

I’ve felt for you Matt, I really have. All you did was try to give a new driver a break, and it really has kicked you in the ■■■■■■■■, but don’t beat yourself up over it because I would have done exactly the same myself.
I suppose most of us find that bad luck comes in runs, and you think it’s never going to stop, but it does, and I’m sure you’ll be back up to speed soon. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and all that!
Really sorry to hear it’s all gone a bit ■■■■ with the new driver Matt.
Edit - hadn’t read the other thread when I posted this I can now see ‘a bit’ needs changing to ‘very’.
