Sorry if this has been asked before, but can anyone recommend an insurance company where I can get public liability insurance.
I’ve just started a limited company and will be driving via an agency.
£1,000,000 cover should be ok.
Obviously most insurance companies will do it, but are there any that deal will HGV drivers specially.
cheers in advance for any replies.
More a price comparison site, but they do provide a good service and I know others on here have recommended them: http://www.simplybusiness.co.uk/

Do you need it ? I was ltd company once doing agency work and I swear blind I didn’t have insurance as you’re covered through the agency and/or company you’re driving for.
As Ltd co it’s not a legal requirement do why add a cost to your self don’t forget that if you also employ anyone even another contractor you’ll need employer liability cover this doesn’t include you being an employee of said company

Hi
thanks for the replies.
The agency says I gotta have it.
I’ve worked for them for the last four years but i’m just going self employed, so it’s not worth me rubbing them up the wrong way.

Sounds like bull ■■■■, I used to drive busses ‘self employed ltd company umbrella scheme’, this was a job driving people around, and I never required it.
Also, I’d check if it’s worth going ‘Self Employed’ at all if you’re just working for the agency anyway, sounds like they’re trying to get out of the new rules regarding agency workers rights.
1 of the agencies I’m currently on for was trying to convince me to go ‘self employed’ as I’d get £1 / hr more and be able to claim back a bzillion pounds in ‘expenses’ and it’d only cost me £25 per week or something for the accountant ■■ I can get an accountant to do my accounts (same one I used when I was a courier and she’s a good friend too) for £100 / year TOPS.
Mate, it’s a con, stick with PAYE or go self employed properly, not get dragged into that crappy situation.
That extra £1 / hr has to pay your ‘fees’, your tax and NI and employers NI, your holiday pay and now your ‘liability insurance’ too■■?
You don’t need it…
I’m Ltd Co and do a bit of agency as well as direct to Transport co’s - have never been asked for insurance cover. You are covered by the Transport Co’s insurance as anyother driver would be.
If the agency insist on it - ask them why… you are no different to the next driver, except you get paid in a different way.
