The ‘?’ refers to an unknown time period. This is a period that the card wasn’t in a tacho and no manual entries were made to cover the period.
As each printout covers a 24 hour period from 00:00 to 24:00 there may be periods at the begining, end or even in the middle of the day where that card is not in the VU. All the VU does is list these and total them for the 24 hour period.
where is the best place to buy some from? (i’ve only got 2 left)
I’d be inclined to request them off the operator before spending my own money, afterall it’s their truck. Having said that, tacho centres and quite a few of the truckstops and better MSAs have them. can also get the stuff mail order, but p&p gets expensive for small orders.
Thanks for the reply geebee just a few more questions for you clued up guys
What and where and should I write manual entry’s for when card was put in while driving
I also went over the 6hr WTD for a 15 minute break by (11mins) although there was plenty of other work recorded - Do you think I should put on back that I forgot to switch to rest mode on back of print out
Also I was using bottom arrow to see my driving time but it only ever showed like 1hr 9 or 1hr 30 over the 3 days I used it, which was annoying because I wanted to know - Wos that driving time left or driving time completed or was there another menu function that would clearly show me what I had done - it was a Siemens it was a Siemens VDO
Yes a couple of infringements but I am hoping the vosa peeps will let me off with a warning if captured in the next 25 days - being a new driver and using my card for the first time
Thanks in advance
A quick note to Mods - I am not recieving any emails to threads I have subscribed to, do you think you can help me through pm, I sent an email to Admin but nothing back so far

If you’re using Siemens printer paper, there’s a place on the back for manual entries.

They’re not going to hang you for that anyway, but as you have to do manual entries anyway you may as well put a break in.

From memory: Whilst driving if you press “OK” it will show how much driving time you’ve done since the last 45 break, and how much break you’ve had, but remember that it isn’t set up for the latest regulations and will show any 15 minute block of rest.
Near the bottom of the printout there should be a summary of the days driving ec’t.
Yes a couple of infringements but I am hoping the vosa peeps will let me off with a warning if captured in the next 25 days - being a new driver and using my card for the first time
25 days ?
Vosa have a mandate to educate where possible rather than prosecuting, so I’m sure they would look on your little indiscretions with some sympathy
Thanks in advance

Not a mod but have you checked that the correct bullet box is selected in your profile ?
Always notify me of replies:
Sends an e-mail when someone replies to a topic you have posted in. This can be changed whenever you post.
Also when you post have a look just above the “Preview” button, the box to notify you of replies should be ticked.
Thanks for clearing that up tacho the 25 days thing wos just meant to show when my card will have scrubbed the offending day, I know I have to carry 28days + the day I am working assuming this is this correct.
Regarding the email issue I have checked in my profile Always notify me of replies: and every time I post

Sorry to disappoint you m8, but the card will hold much more than 28 days of records.
When the card memory is full the data starts to be over-written, the oldest records will be over-written first.
The card will hold a minimum of 28 days of data, but in reality depending on the amount of activity changes in a day it could hold many months of data, it’s not uncommon for cards to hold over a hundred days of records.

Sorry about that
Another lesson learned there Tacho about how much data stored on digi card I will put in my manual entry on the day and learn the lesson’s well - Dont press eject button while driving time/other work or break and dont ever go over driving/WTD for breaks to please some TM fanny sittin on his ■■■ drinkin coffe while I handball all his loads, soz for the mini rant.
Giblsa:
is the data stored anywhere else apart from the unit until download and then the companies computer?
once it is downloaded from teh unit does the unit get ‘wiped’ clean?
what if you lose your card■■?
No the unit doesn’t get wiped clean. when it is full, at least a years worth of data, it will start overwriting the oldest stuff but it doesn’t get wiped clean. This is why there is a facility for a company to lock off their data when getting rid of the truck, selling it or returning a hire vehicle for instance, so as to prevent the next user from viewing it.
‘Losing’ your card would just be an inconvenience to you, unless you are also going to lose the units it has been in and all the downloaded records from your card and the units.
As with charts if you are going to do something iffy, either by accident or deliberately, then just record that fact instead of employing ‘foolproof’* methods to disguise your actions. The punishments for falsifying or failing to keep records are higher than those for committing infringements.
foolproof methods include such things as pulling the fuse and altering the clock, both of which are very easily detectable when charts are analysed.

As tacho say’s in earlier post it’s hardly a hanging offence, regards the bigger picture I think it would be best just to stick to the rules - end of
I will have to speak to my little cousin who is a director/part owner of a haulage company and who deals with all the drivers hours but even so that is her forte I dont think her advice would be any different
